cajunfla Posted August 10, 2016 #177 Share Posted August 10, 2016 Lanyard. After years of mandatory wearing of "ID card, visible at all times, worn above the waist" as one of 3500 employees, it's no big deal. No visible ID card gets a call to security. TheTravelista Posted August 11, 2016 #178 Share Posted August 11, 2016 I will never wear a lanyard around my neck. Ever. I have one though and will usually wrap it around my wrist. I wish Carnival would offer wristbands for the people that want them. Those who don't can still have cards.
crusinpsychRN Posted August 13, 2016 #179 Share Posted August 13, 2016 I actually hook one side of my sunglasses earpieces through the metal part and hang them from my lanyard in front of my card. Hopefully you get what I mean. It's nice because then I don't have to worry about them falling off my head. I don't get it. Picture? I'm a real dork then because I use a lanyard and a fanny pack. I usually carry a purse on cruises though.
firemanbobswife Posted August 13, 2016 #180 Share Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) I don't get it. Picture? I'm a real dork then because I use a lanyard and a fanny pack. I usually carry a purse on cruises though. I had my sunglasses on in this pic (I cropped it to make it smaller for here), but I put the earpiece through the silver circle just above the clip that holds my S&S card and below the string. They hang down (sunglasses are in a closed position once I do that). It's very secure and I don't have to worry about them getting tangled in my long hair like if I put them on top of my head. Hope it's more clear. If not I can get a pic tonight when I'm home. Edited August 13, 2016 by firemanbobswife

texasgirl73 Posted August 13, 2016 #183 Share Posted August 13, 2016 (edited) My kids used lanyards, which I like for them because I can visibly see that they have them and don't have to keep asking. I carry a small purse on vacation so I don't need a lanyard. My husband keeps his in his jeans pockets (he and I don't swim on the ship. I don't like small pools or hot tubs and he hates the sun.) During beach excursions I use KISS bag and keep them in a zipper bag that's inside the KISS bag. The KISS bag has a lock that allows me to not only lock the bag closed but attach it to a tree or something so that I can feel a little more secure. jmspls72 Posted August 13, 2016 #184 Share Posted August 13, 2016 Great idea for the kids so u don't have to ask. Gene would be happy for the KISS advertisement. Make sure you pay him for using the KISS name. Damn I have to pay too since I used that word.[emoji3] Sent from my iPad using Forums

Je Souhaite Posted August 13, 2016 #188 Share Posted August 13, 2016 Question for experienced cruisers? How do you carry your sign and sail card? Do they provide some kind of lanyard with card holder? Or do people put them in their wallets? I'm imagining wanting to wander around the ship without a purse, and my kids don't usually carry wallets, so how do people keep their cards on them? Actually, because our room reservations don't match where we will actually be sleeping, both my oldest son and I are going to have to carry two cards with us -- one for charging and one for access to the room we are sleeping in. So double the consideration. ;-) In my wallet. I hate lanyards.

[emoji869] O well it wouldn't surprise me Gene if he had a line of purse with a members face mask on each one. This for Gene Simmons if I find out their a line of purses I want my cut of the profits Sent from my iPad using Forums

RecoveryDude Posted August 14, 2016 #193 Share Posted August 14, 2016 OMG ... yes, we have all just spent TEN PAGES debating "to use a lanyard or not." LMAO ... we all need a hobby, LOL ... oh yeah , we HAVE a hobby, reading Cruise Critic! I carry my cell phone everywhere on the ship as it also serves as my camera :) SO I have a special cell phone case that has a couple slots I can stick my S&S card and a credit card (for port days). I also have lanyards and have used them ... but they are so light that when I jog on the track high on the ship it's so windy I've almost had them blow away off my neck, so I much prefer to now keep them with my phone which I always have with me. Now, if we want this post to go on ANOTHER 10 pages .... should I bring up the "Passport vs Birth Certificate" debate? Or better yet the "TO bring your Passport off the ship or leave in the safe." HAHA. Cheers! Jeff aka Recovery Dude
texasgirl73 Posted August 15, 2016 #194 Share Posted August 15, 2016 Jeff, I just think it means that we all love to talk about cruising and will talk about anything to pass the time until the next cruise....including lanyards. [emoji4]

h_blond2 Posted August 15, 2016 #197 Share Posted August 15, 2016 I my put card on a lanyard, but I normally just throw the whole thing in my bag. I typically only wear the lanyard when getting on and off the ship.
wealwayswander Posted April 8, 2018 #198 Share Posted April 8, 2018 Older thread but I thought I would add my question here versus start a new one. I wouldn't use a lanyard but.... Should I get one for a 13 year old? Or if he decides he wants one are they for sale on the ships? Carnival Splendor to be specific

Carnival Splendor to be specific I would recommend getting one for your son as it will be easier to keep track of. They do sell them in the shops on board and they will hole punch it for you. So double the consideration. ;-) I'm PLATNUM, so I have people to carry it for me! Hahaha kidding! Good question. You are right, it is a pain to carry it in a pocket. Most people use a lanyard either around the neck or attached to their clothing some how. A lot of ship's casinos will pop a hole in the corner of the card for you, some will do it at the check in desk, others already have the card punched. Some folks also buy those clear plastic holders for the lanyards.
