How do you carry your sign and sail card?

A pocket. Lanyards look ridiculous and are uncomfortable, the wrist things ditto, and both make anyone "look old" which as an aging person I try to avoid :). I buy swimsuits that have a pocket or two. My current suits have a velcro pocket on the butt that works perfectly for my S&S card, and I can confirm that these cards are unaffected by water exposure or being repeatedly sat upon! :p

I am not old and I prefer a lanyard. I buy a lot of drinks and find it easier to access, and I do not have to worry about it falling out of a pocket. If you are worried about " looking old", then you probably are.

Wow - Holy judgemental comments, Batman!

So many people hating on the lanyards and a few on purses - why do you care???

I wear a lanyard - so sue me, or hate me - I don't care! It's a really nice one that's all blinged out. It has a ring that goes through a S&S card with a hole punched. The ring part detaches so it's easy to hand to a waiter or shop person or open the cabin door.

I don't wear it to dinner, because then I'll have a tiny purse. I don't wear it off the ship because, I have a purse for that too. JMO, but I don't think they are dorky at all ... but speaking of dorky, can we talk about those Capris? If you're laughing at my lanyard, keep in mind, I'm laughing at your Capris (they can't decide if they are a pant or shorts!) :D

Actually, unless you are doing or wearing something incredibly out of the ordinary - I. don't. CARE!

Answer to the OP - I use a lanyard!

Why do people hate lanyards?

I can only speak for myself. The reasons I dislike (not hate) lanyards:

  • I find them unattractive. Even the fanciest, most expensive, blingiest, super-ultra-deluxe designer lanyard is unattractive to me. I have never met a lanyard I liked. I'm no fashion plate, but I prefer not to walk around wearing something that I personally find so unattractive.:o
  • I dislike the physical sensation of it hanging around my neck. (chafing / tugging / scratching / catching on things / weight / etc.)
  • I usually don't have pockets in my cruise clothing and I like to carry more items with me when out and about onboard than a lanyard (or a pocket, for that matter) will hold.
  • I don't want to be physically attached to the bartender / gift shop cashier / Groove For St. Jude staff / etc. via the umbilicus of my lanyard whilst he swipes my S&S card for each purchase, nor do I want to take the thing from 'round my neck each time it needs to be swiped. One seems awkward and the other tiresome.

As I said, these are just my personal feelings on the matter and I am not passing judgment on others.

Carnival sells something for .75 cents?!? I bought a rain poncho from them for $1.99 and thought that was the best deal Carnival had.

they had a lot of them on the rack so i guess they had to get rid of them my next cruise was Alaska so i bought it can't beat .75 maybe they will have another sale next week

I carry a moneyclip on board, small magnetic leather one. they're about 5 bucks at walmart. I use that on shore as well, in my front pocket. But I Keep very little money in it just in case, I keep my money in another pocket in another moneyclip.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but if someone wants to mug me, I want to be able to give them something, and if it has my SS card in it, Im willing to bet thats all they think I have.

Stealing that idea for next cruise.

Last cruise I used a lanyard on board and my pocket in port but I like the idea of "dummy" money just in case.

Mine is blue with Carnival written on it. Yeah, I do get tangled in it with my sun glasses, reading glasses and hat strap! Just saves me from losing it like my son did 3 times in one day.

You can use a thin money belt under your shirt!

Unrelated, but this may help- we have sailed over ten cruises, and always laminated our cabin identifier bag tags for cruise. I finally ordered from Amazon 8 tags for $10.50 free prime shipping- from North Am traders, took longer to arrive (a week) so plan accordingly. Each holder is waterproof heavy duty ziploc with metal braided cables to put them in. Worked amazing and reusable. Also got idea of taking cabin bag tags out of pouches last night and put in the luggage ones they give you for retrieving bags after disembarking. Had a paper one come came off prior cruise and had to go look in misfit pile of "lost luggage."

I actually hook one side of my sunglasses earpieces through the metal part and hang them from my lanyard in front of my card. Hopefully you get what I mean. It's nice because then I don't have to worry about them falling off my head.

I haven't been on a cruise yet I will be in May and been reading up on what works for people. However I know that when I go out places my phone never leaves my side so I have a phone case that holds my ID and credit card so I plan on using that while on the ship for my S&S card

Just came off the grandeur of the seas (first time RCI cruiser and loved it. It will be my treat yo self cruise since carnival fits my young adult budget). I used the free casino lanyard it worked for me (after I had to get my sea pass replaced SIX TIMES) and then once I was in Bermuda (all time favorite port) I placed it in my phone wallet along with my id & credit card that, was also placed into my fanny pack (yes Millennials wear fanny packs [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]) with a luggage lock (I always do this when I don't know an area very well but Bermuda actually feels safer than were I go to school).

We put ours in a key card holder on a bungee cord. It slides out easy for ships that swipe and taps in the holder for those accepting tap. Bungee can be worn as a necklace or clipped to a belt loop and slide into pocket or wrapped around your wrist. Never lost one since getting this haha previous methods were bra or bathing suit and waist band of bottoms or shorts.

I usually carry my sail and sign card in my front pocket, along with my costco card that doubles as my room safe key.

Question for experienced cruisers? How do you carry your sign and sail card? Do they provide some kind of lanyard with card holder? Or do people put them in their wallets? I'm imagining wanting to wander around the ship without a purse, and my kids don't usually carry wallets, so how do people keep their cards on them? Actually, because our room reservations don't match where we will actually be sleeping, both my oldest son and I are going to have to carry two cards with us -- one for charging and one for access to the room we are sleeping in. So double the consideration. ;-)

My wife is diabetic and has to carry her medicine and sugar with her. Any suggestion on what to use to carry the supplies. Fanny pack is good idea. Didn't know what else people use.

Thanks

Does the medicine need to be kept cold? If so, there are small, insulated, zippered bags designed for keeping bottles of breast milk chilled. These little bags are meant to be carried in a larger (diaper) bag, but they usually have a little carry handle of their own. There is also the option of a small insulated lunchbox / lunchbag / cooler bag. If the meds don't need to be kept chilled, how 'bout a small wristlet in whatever style she likes? They come in many, many styles and colours.:)

Here's a whole page of them from just one retailer:
