Yes, I sent an email to icare@carnival a couple weeks before my cruise asking if the pre-cruise price would be honored. I was told sure, no problem. I asked if there was a specific place I should purchase it to make sure it went smoothly and they told me the Casino Bar, the Atrium Bar, or the Lido Bar. I went to the Casino Bar and they directed me to GS. Then I tried the Atrium Bar and they directed me to GS. (I showed them the e-mail on my phone at both places.) I went to GS and had to wait 15 minutes for the bar manager who had to override the price in the system. Pretty much a pain and I probably would not bother with it again for just me on a four day cruise. Two people on a longer cruise might be worth it. If I did it again I'd go directly to GS and ask for the bar manager. Hopefully they will just make whatever changes they need to the system to allow gift cards to be used for BV but I'm not holding my breath. Picture is, bar mangers fleet wide over riding dozens maybe hundreds of requests on the first and second day. When some I.T. person at Carnival Corp can fix this in fifteen minutes. Put the Cheers on a credit card, deposit gift cards in S&S account, cash out at the casino, go home and pay your credit card, plus you get mileage. Went directly to GS with the note from Carnival that they would allow the purchase with the preprice with the gift cards. They didn't know anything about it and had never received any memo on this. I didn't quit until I got it. I had to go to the atrium bar and buy the cheers at full price and they said they would refund the difference. It took all week and the only way I got it was to go to GS everyday and ask them they kept promising it would happen and on the last day still was not credited. I finally called the morning we left and they said they just credited it. It was a hassle but if I had not kept after them it wouldn't have happened. Did not present anything. Told the bartender we should get the pre purchase since we had gift cards on our account. She said no problem. Done correctly the first time. splintz Posted November 12, 2016 #38 Share Posted November 12, 2016 Must be at least as hard as letting people use their " cheers " on Half Moon Cay :D ! you nailed it. if they really wanted to do it they could without a major problem. the fact is they don't want to. they want you to pay for drinks at HMC even with cheers. it is to their benefit. with the gift card issue they figure very few people will challenge the issue of not being able to pay with the gift card before the cruise and receive the discount. a majority especially new cruisers will just take the gift cards on board and load same to their sign and sail account. and then pay full price for the cheers on board. of course there will be experienced cruises who challenge this and Carnival will accommodate them but not correct the system anytime soon.
