Rare John Bull Posted September 2, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 2, 2016 (edited) ...just taxi fare finder and got a cost of around 300 pounds. Does ship provide bus into London? Facility of train? Should be nothing like £300. Try http://www.smithsforairports.com or http://www.westquaycars.com - should be somewhere around £130 to £150. Some ships provide a bus to London's Victoria coach station. The usual route passes through Kensington (along Cromwell Road / Brompton Road). If you asked the driver before he loads your luggage he'd perhaps stop & let you off. Otherwise it's a short walk from Victoria coach station to Victoria rail station, then take the tube back a few stops to the most suitable Kensington tube station. Much much cheaper than ship's bus, at under £10 per person, is http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx. You'll need a £5 to £10 taxi to Southampton coach station, but their buses go to that same Victoria coach station. Ideal on the current timetable would be 8.40am or 9.50am. You're strongly advised to book in advance. Train is much more expensive, at around £40 per person by SouthWest Trains to London Waterloo, There are no discounted tickets Southampton to London in the mornings. And Waterloo isn't very convenient for Kensington. There's also an hourly train service Southampton to Victoria and it's cheaper, but it's a tortuous route that takes an hour longer - and that operator (Southern Trains) is currently in a mess, with staff shortages, strikes & cancellations. Hope this helps more than it confuses. JB :) Edited September 2, 2016 by John Bull

Last fall, Smith's for Airports charged us £108 for a transfer from St. Pancras to Southampton. (Plus £7 for the car park at St. Pancras.) Well worth the "splash out." :)

pmacher61 Posted September 2, 2016 #32 Share Posted September 2, 2016 The cost of an MPV vehicle according to Twelve Transfers Co is 124 pounds. It will hold 4 pax , 4 suitcases and 4 carry-ons. Can I get a partner for a ride from pier to Kensington when we port on Sept 16?
Globaliser Posted September 2, 2016 #33 Share Posted September 2, 2016 Anyone want to share the car ...You need to ask on your roll call thread, and nowhere else - otherwise your posts may get deleted. If you were wondering, the cost of the transfer is because you're going from one city to another. Think of it as like disembarking in New York City and trying to get a taxi to Philadelphia. That's the sort of distance involved. Unfortunately, cruise lines routinely lie to unsuspecting customers about Southampton being "London"; it isn't. Cotswold Eagle Posted September 4, 2016 #35 Share Posted September 4, 2016 As was explained above, you need to post such requests in the Roll Call forum, not here. And it is not "So Hampton", the name of the city is Southampton.
