Lights on Balcony ?

Recommended Posts

I am LOL :D

Does the word blow up wading pool bring to mind the posts of the woman who was bringing one for her kid. She couldn't understand why she shouldn't. Then proceeded to say she could empty it over the balcony. There would be more than what you described on the balcony below. YUK!

Yes, that was yet another classic thread on CC :D

Thanks to all the responses. Thats why I asked here. I figured I could get different opinions on this question. Things I wouldnt have thought of. I thought it would be fun, but I do not want to offend any fellow passengers or neighbors or break any rules. Since that went so well, what if we put out flags (appx 3' x 4') while in port ? I thought it would be cool to be able to spot our corner aft balcony ( if ship backs in) when going back to the ship.
Um, "elvis", it will be easy to spot your corner aft balcony. It will be ON THE CORNER.

Peace out.

I picture a typical Saturday night hoedown in the old trailer park.

I agree. And if I could see them from my balcony, I'd ask for them to be removed.

The pleasure of a balcony at night is to enjoy the moon, stars and reflections off the ocean. :) I prefer to sit on the balcony at night in the dark.

Every ship I have been on has had balcony lights that could be turned on or off, that are very bright. It seems a lot of people leave them on all night long. So, at least in our experience, the balconies are no where close to completely dark. I can't see how a strand of twinkle lights could make disturb anyone. I have never put lights or pretend candles on my own balconies, but if someone else wanted to do it, it's fine by me. :)

I have seen it done on several cruises, and I have never been bothered by it.

I think as long as it is safe, and not some blinding light, it should be fine.

It's No worse than people making "whoopie" on their balconies and moaning and groaning for everyone to hear! LOL (that i've heard several times)

It's your cruise, and you should do what makes you happy!

Go with your instincts on what will make your cruise special or more enjoyable. If lights do the trick - go for it.

The strangest thing I saw on a balcony was a large inflatable palm tree. I saw it in a collection of cruise photos posted on this board - probably about 6 months ago. One thing it helped with was for the passengers to locate their cabin from the pier - of course only if their balcony faced the pier when the ship docked. :D

If you take the lights, (I have no opinion, take them if you want and the cruise line is OK with it) please don't use the blinking ones. Alot of people are sensitive to flashing lights and can have adverse effects from them (Seizures in my case) I would be upset if my neighbor had blinking lights b/c I would not really want to be a jerk and tell them to take them down. They paid for their balcony cabin. Enjoy it the way you want. Other passengers shouldn't be so judgemental.

My goodness, where would you like these people to smoke? The balcony IS, after all, outside, and if you can't stand a few whiffs of smoke or the faint smell, then you are, perhaps, a little too sensitive and looking to be miserable. Especially if the ship is moving, that smoke would be blowning back and out, away from you. It's not like sitting next to someone in a casino where their smoke, from a cigarette a foot or two away, is blowing directly into your face. Give these balcony smoker folks a break....most are doing their best to keep you away from their smoke.

By the way, I do not smoke, never have smoked, and I hate being exposed to second hand smoke, but someone smoking on their outside balcony 15 feet and around a corner away from me, going 15 kpm, is not going to bother me in the least.

the post said Mary Jane! Very different smell then just a cigarette.;) We had a cigar smoker next to us on two cruises. We had to go inside when he lit up. It was awful. BUT, his right, so I just went in and waited it out.:( Also have seen big balloons on corner afts, for that "gotta see my balcony from the pier, thing.

Hey, none of that decorated railing lights stuff for me! I just like to sit on the balcony after dark and flash out "SOS" with my 1.5 million candlepower portable spotlight for a couple of hours. :D

I signal "SUPPLIES RUNNING LOW....SEND MORE CORONA!" It's especially effective when we're cruising near Mexico :p

He is talking about smoking pot.Mary Jane is another name for marijuana. So the little whiffs of smoke could get you high.I don't think he will be sitting next to someone in the casino is going to light up some mary jane.Folgy isn't looking to be miserable, just amused.

They just asked a simple question about small lights on their balcony. Not something that will destroy your cruise experience, just enhance theirs. We had small party lights but put them on the door as part of a door decorating contest hung them with suction cups. Was it a little tacky, yes was it fun yes. Many people used our door to find their way to their door and when they would see us coming out or going in would stop us and say they liked the decorations and thanks for putting them up. Did everyone like them, probably not, do I care definetly not. It didn't hurt anyone or distract from their cruise experience.

By the way my DH had a small blowup palm tree he put on the balcony and the neighbors loved it. We knew because they told him as they leaned over to talk to each other. It ended up on the race horse our group bought and made alot of people smile. Vacations are about relaxing, smileing and letting go a little bit. We don't do things that will take away form others enjoyment but loosen up, your on vacation!

Opps, it's been a very long time since I have heard that expression....I'm not sure it's used anymore by anyone under 50. I thought he was speaking to someone named MaryJane. :D

I highly doubt anyone could get high smelling a few whiffs floating over a balcony. Having graduated HS in 1969 and attended college in the early 1970's I can promise you I smelled way more than an occasional whiff, and was in closer proximity than an open air balcony and never got high. Just because you can smell it doesn't mean that it has the potential to affect you. :)

I've heard so many complaints over the years on Cruise Critic about what other people do, and frankly I am tired of the constant whining and picking. Why don't people just live their own lives, the best they can, and let it go at that?

If something someone does DIRECTLY affects you, then approach that person in a civil, considerate manner and ask for cooperation on resolving the issue. Take the appropriate steps to a fair conclusion of the issue.

What doesn't affect you directly, such as someone putting twinkle lights on their balcony, should be of no concern to you. Certainly calling people names, or making blanket, sweeping pronouncements, such as calling them tacky, is presumptive and rude. If you think it's below you to have lights on your balcony, then by all means, don't have lights....but don't compromise your integrity by resorting to snide remarks and name-calling. Not to mention returning to the elementary school practice of making fun of those who are different from you. No one likes to be made fun of.

I think Cruise Critic would be vastly improved if people just answered the questions asked without feeling the need to editorialize or lecture or worse.
