Rare rjm11 Posted September 7, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 7, 2016 I am looking for suggestions for the Friday after Thanksgiving, with only one ship in port.... do you think Magen's will be terribly crowded? I like the idea of a beautiful beach with a few options for food/drink for a few hours of swimming/relaxing. We will be snorkeling at several other stops, so that's not imperative at St Thomas, unless someone thinks there's somewhere that can't be missed. Are there downsides to Magen's Bay besides being crowded? Other suggestions?
zookiebird Posted September 7, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 7, 2016 Whenever we're in St Thomas we always go over to Trunk Bay on St John. It's the most beautiful beach we've been lucky enough to visit in the Caribbean. Shouldn't be too crowded with only one ship in port.
skrufy Posted September 10, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Trunk Bay is all everyone says. But its an all day trip. You take a ferry from Havensight dock and then a shuttle to Trunk Bay. If you do it on your own you have to take a cab to Red Hook, a ferry to St. John and a cab to Trunk Bay. Then all in reverse back to St. Thomas. There a snorkling trail at Trunk Bay, also food, drink and rentals. Megans Bay could and could not be crowded. You never know til you get there. Ms411 Posted September 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Most of the beaches will be more crowded because it's a holiday weekend so there will be locals and hotel guests at the popular beaches. Traveling most anywhere during the holidays is more crowded.
blue_water Posted September 10, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2016 Yes the beaches will be crowded over the holidays. For a nice beach experience we'd taxi to Smith Bay Park (Lindqvist Beach) or Sapphire Beach on the East End. Both are gorgeous, Sapphire has drink and food options. $10pp each way and worth it. http://www.sapphireinthesun.com
