I believe only the P&O ships are small enough to use the terminal, all others have to use the ugly container port.

 

Buy bus tickets at the terminal.

 

Remember 'Casino' is a supermarket, not a casino:)

 

 

I'd take some local currency for anywhere away from the terminal. Aussie $ are fine at the terminal & Casino supermarket. BTW, the food section of the supermarket is well worth a look.

The Solstice used the Cruise terminal when we were there. If the solstice can dock there so can the Princess ships and the smaller RCI ships as well.

Was born and raised in England, our Grandpa lived in Cannes, South of France when we were young, so spent many a Summer holiday there.

Noumea very much reminded me of those times. Used to be fluent French speaker, but have lost a lot of it since being in Australia. Can still understand a fair bit when I hear a spoken conversation.

If you're going to be going to Noumea, at least learn some basic French (they do appreciate it when someone at least tries) and go with a confidence and local currency.

IMHO, those people who find the Noumea locals/shop assistants etc "rude", are the ones who dont make an effort and wont use local currency.

I have been to Noumea twice now and I love it, there are some great boutiques to shop and I have found a nice place to dine each time. I always take francs to buy lunch and spend at the markets and I think that makes a difference in attitude.
