CruiserBruce Posted September 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2016 A quick search of the board reveals: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2232943&highlight=chiapas http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2092520&highlight=chiapas http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1925667&highlight=chiapas http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1956557&highlight=chiapas Chiapas is not a common stop- too far away for Mexican Rivera cruises. Usually only on Canal cruises, and ships coming or going from South America.

mcmarya Posted October 24, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 24, 2016 There really is not much to do at this port. There are tours to the Izapa ruins and chocolate city and a couple of others. You can take the shuttle to Tapachula, but it is not a quaint town. The market is interesting. There is also not much at the port, not even wi-fi the last time we stopped there. usually there are some dancers performing in the port structure. There is also a bar/restaurant with a pool in the port area.
Rare Turtles06 Posted February 7, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2017 We've just returned from a wonderful 16-night Panama Canal cruise on the NCL Jewel. Puerto Chiapas was one of our many ports, and, quite frankly, was totally "skippable." The minor ruins at Izapa were worth a brief visit (since we were in port), but that was it. The nearby city of Tapachula was not worth the time. Really, a sea day would have been far preferable.
baja mama Posted February 8, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 8, 2017 Has anyone done the Banana Plantation & Rural Community tour in Puerto Chiapas?
zeen978 Posted February 13, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 13, 2017 We just did this tour and we really enjoyed it. We really felt that it wasn't going to be very good but it actually turned out to be one of favorite tours. We went with NCL and the tour guide was very good. We went to an elementary school, met the kids, passed out candy and school supplies. The kids performed several charming dances at the school. From there we went to the banana processing plant which was very interesting. Lastly, we were welcomed at the church and given a meal of tamales made by the women in the community. The write- up from NCL didn't include this part in the tour description. We really felt that we saw how the people lived and the community was very welcoming. yeahoot Posted May 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 4, 2017 Shuttle to Tapachula is US$10 round trip. It's about a half hour ride one way. They return hourly. There are a row of cafes at the south side of Hidalgo Park where you can have a beer and bite to eat, plus use free Wi-Fi. Drop off is across the street from Hidalgo Park in the middle of a shopping area.

Bissetbevo Posted May 11, 2018 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2018 We've been on 13 cruises and this is the only port at which we did not get off the ship. Every person on our April 2018 cruise who got off at the port said it was a waste of time and money.
