Family of 4 Cruising Posted October 31, 2005 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2005 I had my 10 year old very excited that he would be able to stay up to go to the Midnight Buffets on the ship....But they had None :o( We had the Chocoholic Buffet...that was at 11:30. This was the Majesty out of Boston Oct. 2nd. Are there any ships around that still have Midnight Buffets???
BrooklynGirl2 Posted October 31, 2005 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2005 We sailed Zenith to Bermuda and they had a magnificent Grand Midnight Buffet on the last formal night (Thursday night on a 7day cruise). It was so amazing to see that they allowed you all to walk through it and take pictures before anyone was allowed to eat. The also had a nice fruit and dessert buffet at night (it may have been at 11:30 or so) out on the pool deck. They did amazing carvings on watermelons for that one. coast2coast Posted November 8, 2005 #3 Share Posted November 8, 2005 My last three cruises on the Serenade, Mariner, and Explorer all had them. Looking forward to the one on the Voyager...

As I remember I think our Zenith trip was the last big spread. Princess has by and large quit doing them and now just has displays in the atrium
newmexicoNita Posted November 25, 2005 #5 Share Posted November 25, 2005 I think some lines still have 1 per week, in the good ole days they were every night: even those who have them now usually start them about 11 or 11:30. We don't miss them much, but the art work put into some of the food makes them worth seeing once. NMNita
cheshyrkat Posted December 3, 2005 #6 Share Posted December 3, 2005 On Carnival's Conquest there was a midnight buffet on 2 nights...very beautiful spread!

Cruisechick82 Posted December 22, 2005 #8 Share Posted December 22, 2005 We had both a midnight buffet and then a chocolate buffet on another night on our 4-nighter on the Majesty last year. The midnight buffet was spread out all along the pool deck with different stations for different types of food. They had an ice-carving demonstration before the buffet started. Lisa63 Posted December 24, 2005 #9 Share Posted December 24, 2005 I also recall the nightly midnight buffets. Each was elaborate, and they led up to the Gala Buffet on the last formal night. Even if I didn't partake, I'd go to see how beautifully it was set up. Now we have 24-hour, standard buffets. It's not the same thing.
bububr Posted December 24, 2005 #10 Share Posted December 24, 2005 and how fat and stuffed I was the morning after, most especially during late seating. I'm actually glad that Celebrity now does the 'Gourmet bites' in lieu of the midnight buffets. It give you a chance to wander the ships, go to the casino, the lounges and have really great hors d'oevres brought right to you with out sitting in the dining room or standing in line once again for something. I give it a thumbs up! at least on Celebrity. I haven't traveled anyother lines in quite a while. I am truly content with them. bon appetit Dave:eek:
Atomica Posted December 25, 2005 #11 Share Posted December 25, 2005 I only ever remember having on on the Norwegian Wind back in 1998. On the last few HAL ones I've been on, there's been a sort of 'midnight snack' up on the Lido deck, but nothing like it used to be.
Vanessa L Posted December 28, 2005 #12 Share Posted December 28, 2005 I agree with Lisa63, it is not the same thing. In the 90s NCL and RCI had midnight buffets each night. Each elaborate in its own design, they were a feast for the eyes and tummy! I'm sad that they've gone to the generic all you can eat mega-trough buffets of late. Does anyone know why they took the nightly buffets away?
Druke I Posted December 28, 2005 #13 Share Posted December 28, 2005 Vanessa The reason I have heard most often for discontinuing the midnights buffets was "too much wastage". They sure were pretty in the "old days".
badba2 Posted January 8, 2006 #14 Share Posted January 8, 2006 We had 2 midnight buffets last may on enchantment of the seas. One was on the pool deck with dancing and one was in the main dining room.
JimnKaren Posted February 1, 2006 #15 Share Posted February 1, 2006 Sailing on the Carnivale in the early 1980s there was a midnight buffet and I attended every one. Then, for the late seating folks and the party crowd, there was a 1:30 a.m. buffet that was a bit less elegant and of course, smaller in scale. Oh, for the good old days..... 56 chevy cruise Posted February 7, 2006 #17 Share Posted February 7, 2006 Thats just one of the many things I miss from the Enchanted Isle, they had a midnight buffet every night and each night had a different type of food mexican, etc. all ending with the gala buffet at the end of the week. LindaandJeff Posted February 12, 2006 #18 Share Posted February 12, 2006 Of course, back in the days (or should I say nights?!?) of nightly midnight buffets the ships didn't have all of these other alternative dining venues where you could go to get food if you were hungry. Most ships today have some place whether it is a pizzeria or whatever to find food if you are hungry. But I agree, it's not the same as the artistry and gastronomic delight of the midnight buffet. :D
Lisa141 Posted February 12, 2006 #19 Share Posted February 12, 2006 On Grandeur there were 2 midnight buffets in the dining room, one chocolate (absolutely FABULOUS :p ) and the gala buffet on the last formal night (9night cruise). The other nights there was a BBQ buffet on the pool deck or strolling waiters with goodies in the clubs. I am so hoping our next cruise on Mariner has the buffets! Cape Cruiser 2007 Posted February 25, 2006 #20 Share Posted February 25, 2006 NCL in the 80s had a great midnight buffet- man I can remember the cherries flambe! That was awesome. Wonder if I can slip chefs a few bucks to make it for me now!
Nliedel Posted February 25, 2006 #21 Share Posted February 25, 2006 The Mariner had them, well that's not quite true, there was one. I was too full from dinner to even consider it! I usually elect the late seating.
