Ok I cruise a bit and my friend and I are tying something different this year. We are going to Aruba for a week land vacation. We have never been there so I was hoping that fellow cruisers could suggest from previous experiences must see to do things. We are actually staying at a resort that is right near the port. Any info would be appreciated would it be tour, restaurant, beach shopping! Thank you so much in advance! We will be going Oct 15 to Oct 22nd. Trying to set up a private tour as well.

We stay in Aruba for several weeks each year. Are you staying at Renaissance? We've stayed there several times, and I can give you lots of suggestions for good restaurants that are 5 - 20 minutes walk. Let me know where you will be and we can go from there. Search through some of the threads on here and you can find some great ideas. For a tour, I highly recommend a private tour with Bully. Since you are going fairly soon, he's probably already booked. His email is bullytaxi79@hotmail.com. If he's booked, you can do a jeep tour with ABC or Depalm. Also, if you are staying downtown, you could book a sail/snorkel tour on Tranquilo, which docks downtown, or a sunset tour on Black Pearl, which docks in Palm Beach. They are both wonderful.

Yes, we are staying at the Renaissance!! I have looked into a private tour with Ivan forget his last name. He did a tour for my parents a couple years ago and they loved him. I hear there are a lot of restaurants and shopping. How is night life in Aruba? Since we always cruise we are on the ship for night life lol.

Iavn also gives great tours. Since you are staying at Renaissance, be sure to visit Renaissance Island. There is a family side and an adult side, where the flamingos are. There is not a lot of nightlife downtown any more. There are a couple casinos, and some nice outdoor venues at the plaza at Renaissance marina. There are also some good, inexpensive places to eat there, including Casa Tua and Dutch Pancake House (which is more like crepes). There is entertainment in the back, where both of these are located. Most of the nightlife has moved down to Palm Beach. Good restaurants within walking distance are Yemanja, which is behind Renaissance Marina Hotel, which is the one that I assume that you are staying at.Renaissance Ocean Suites is across the street from Renaissance Marina, and a shuttle runs to both places. Pinchos, Barefoot ( a longer walk, but you can take a taxi), West Deck. These three are right on the water. There are also great restaurants along Eagle Beach and Palm Beach, like Ricardo's, Chalet Suisse, Azzurro, Barney's, Quinta Del Carmen and Madame Jeanettes (more inland). Have fun! Aruba is awesome!

Love the info on this thread! We also cruise often but this October are doing a week in Aruba-staying at the Renaissance because of their private island (visited on a previous cruise). I'm busy making notes of all the suggestions from all the Aruba threads because you can always depend on the CC people

We'll be there 18th - 25th. I've been reading other message boards and guide books. I need to just relax and not treat this like a cruise with new and multiple ports...lol

If staying for a week you should take a desert tour, there is MUCH more to Aruba than its beaches. Aroundaruba.com does private off road tours. We will also be in Aruba for 11 days in Oct and we will have a big orange jeep, you'll probably see us[emoji41]

thank you for these suggestions. I'm really looking forward to it, now that October is about to be on the calendar... I've emailed our resort with various questions and am pleased with their response.

We will certainly be on the look out for the big orange jeep!
