What happens when parents go platinum before minor children?

My husband and I will become platinum pretty soon (8 more sea days!)...but we're about 10 days or so ahead of our children (ages 13, 12, and 6). I know that normally, platinums are not allowed to bring non-platinum "tag-a-longs" for check in...but is that still true with minor children? Obviously, they can't check in without us...just wondering if we will have to wait to use that particular benefit until the kids catch up?

Thanks!!

I would tend to assume so, but when we were at a port that had a platinum/diamond lounge, we were bored waiting for them to start boarding...and my husband actually asked the question to the Carnival employee staffing the lounge. He was told that if parents are platinum and the kids are not...the family is NOT able to wait in the lounge. Seemed counter-intuitive...but I can't say that the "rules" always make sense to me. So, I was wondering if anyone had actually been in that circumstance.

I think you were given bad information. I am the only platinum member in my family and anyone in my room has always been allowed in the lounge with me. Now if my traveling partners had their own room and nobody had platinum status they would not be allowed.

Thanks! That's great to know. Since DH wasn't actually platinum yet...maybe they just thought he was trolling the lounge. LOL.:D

Parents status is usually what the kids are . Because as long they are minors they aren't eligible for using their status.

Actually it depends on the credit card. If you use your credit care for all of the sign and sail accounts, they can board with you. I have a letter from corporate stating that because I take my elderly parents. You can change sail and sign to a different credit card when you get on the ship. So just use your credit card for their sign and sail and they can board with you.

Not true. This loophole was closed awhile ago due to rampant abuse like you described.

I am platinum my friend and travel partner just turned gold he always goes with me to the VIP lounge to board first as long as one person is platinum in the room you all go to the VIP lounge

This is correct. People in the same stateroom can board with the Platinum/Diamond.

What? Kids do earn status on Carnival and have the appropriate colored card issued to them. They do not get the same status as their parents.

Platinums under 18 have one unique benefit-$5 arcade credit.

Maybe you're confusing Princess with Carnival? Kids on Princess stay at blue (first level) until they're 18.

I was sitting next to a 10 year old boy during a trivia game and he was already Platinum. I asked when he turned Platinum and he said when he was eight years old. He also told me he lived in Cocoa Beach. Way to go Carnival, make them loyal while there in diapers!

As stated by another poster, that loophole was closed quite a while ago because of abuse of it.;)

Yes, wrong info. We are platinum and kids aren't. We've taken them through ports at Tampa, Miami and Port Canaveral. They have always stayed with us during boarding and no one has questioned it.

Also, make sure you go to the casino. The platinum perk of $5 arcade card is one you can use for them. You can get up to two cards each adult. We have three kids, so we have always been able to get them each a $5 card. A few times the casino has given us four since each card is eligible for two.

We do NOT take them to the past guest party, though. They go to kids club.

We're Platinum, and the kids have always been able to board with us. On our upcoming cruise they will be Platinum too.

Also, on a recent cruise we asked very nicely, and my parents (Gold) were allowed to board with us as well, so that we could all be in the same embarkation photo (which is the only photo we buy.)

You could have boarded with them and gotten the same photo without pushing for an exception.

They can board with you. I have 4 kids that are not platinum and they board with me.

i always thought the child under 18 had to be platinum to get this benefit. this is good news since my kids are no where platinum status. where do you go in the casino to get the cards?

We cruise with friends who are Platinum. We are Gold. On the last 2 cruises (Miami and PC), they asked the folks in the terminal if we could board with them. Both times they said yes, no problem. Not even the same reservation although our reservations were linked so we would be at the same table in the dining room. I thought it was nice of Carnival to allow that.
