Las Palmas excursion

One of the ship excursions in Roatan is the "Las Palmas Beach Express." Can anyone share information about this beach and excursion? I'd welcome your thoughts both positive or negative. We've been to Bananarama and would like to visit somewhere different. Thanks.

Just back from Roatan. Our excursion included a stop at this recently converted resort. Not crowded. Lots of chairs. Decent beach. I thought restaurant prices were kind of high. The conch fritters were best I've had.

What do you mean by "converted"?

Have they abandoned plans for condominiums or is there construction?

I was told by our guide that it used to be a retail complex and the shop spaces were converted to resort rooms. I didn't notice any construction and we weren't told of condo plans.

Thanks may consider it for a future trip. Has the pirate ship disappeared?

Considering this for future cruise for a change. Looking for any recent reviews (other than from razor, who has 13 out of 14 posts for the place!)?

Rusty Anchor Bar and Grill seems to have been receiving quite good reviews recently on TripAdvisor but then I see very recent reviews which seem to be the same place about Texas Mule, so wondered if there had been a change of ownership?

Also for anyone who has visited can you comment on quality of sand, is it very rough and do I need water shoes?

Thanks!

The restaurant at Las Palmas is called the Texas Mule Saloon and serves barbeque, ribs, etc. It is managed by a couple from Texas. When you look at the price of meat on Roatan you can understand the prices. The food is great and as noted above there is plenty of chairs to enjoy the beach. We have had the ribs, brisket and conch ceviche. All were excellent.

Thanks for the update! I think we will give it a try later in the year.
