Heurigen Evening in Vienna

Has anyone done the Heurigen Evening optional excursion in Vienna on Viking or have it booked? Trying to figure out if it's really held in a vineyard or in a tavern.

I did this as an option on a river cruise.

 

It is a lot of fun. It is at a vineyard, but ours was outside, with picnic tables and partial covering, almost like a lean to.

 

The wine is very fresh, and it is served in large glasses. You should get a huge pretzel and various dips. They keep bringing the wine. You keep drinking the wine.

 

We had an accoridan guy & a guitar guy play and sing at our table, coming & going to the tables beside ours. It was a lot of fun.

 

PS - because this wine is fresh, it is also full of alcohol. You will realize how much the next day.

We did it on Vantage. We went to a (basically) courtyard restaurant type venue. It was sort of an alley between two buildings that had a sliding roof that could enclose it, or be open. While dining, we tasted 4 or 5 (sorry can't recall) different wines (one with each course). There was also entertainment (singing, dancing, pulling the diners up to also dance along, etc).

 

A Heurigen is a wine tavern. Could be located anywhere. I believe different river cruise lines might use different heurigens.

On AMA it's described as an Evening in the Vienna Woods. There is one particular street that is lined with these taverns. We had such fun as did the other pax from the ship.
