Carnival "Glory" questions

I just booked a cruise for Carnival Glory for March next year (seems like a long ways off, but with me working full time, holidays coming up, it will be here before we know it). Several have never cruised before, and I can answer all those questions, but NOT about the Glory. I am going to put a few questions below, and if you have been on the Glory within the past year, perhaps you can answer these questions. I know these are YOUR answers/opinions, but that is fine. If you have any other comments one way or another, feel free to put it here as well. I may have a few more questions later, as I am making all kinds of notes, and will have them typed up and ready to go for when we cruie.

In regard to the MDR's. On some ships (depending upon where we are coming from), you have to go down, and then up, or through the BAD smoking Casino area. Do you have to do this with either of these two MDR's?

We are leaving on Saturday, what are the two formal nights?

Do they have the $10 or $15 sales close to the end of the cruise?

Are the beds (to YOU) comfortable, or do you think I need to ask for an egg crate, as they have always been very comfortable before?

We will be doing an inner room on Deck 8. Any comments about a room there, etc.?

Do they have the Love and Marriage show, or something similar to that?

Other than the Lido (think that is the name on Deck 9?), what other "name" places do they have FREE food?

Any suggestions of things to see/do that you might have enjoyed on this ship?

Both of the MDRs are on Deck 5. The front MDR can be accessed through the atrium. The rear MDR must be accessed from a different deck. You can walk the length of the ship on almost any other deck and then take the elevator to deck 5. It doesn't have to be via the deck the casino is on. BTW, the smoke is even hardly noticeable when walking the corridor next to the casino so I have no idea why you claim "BAD smoking casino area" since you haven't even been on board the ship???

Usually, for Saturday sailings, formal night will be on Sunday and Thursday night.

Yes. Sometimes even in the middle of the cruise.

Beds have always been comfortable to me.

You may have noise from the pool deck or buffet area since you are directly below them. Nice thing is you can hit the pool deck by taking the stairs up one flight instead of waiting on the elevator.

Usually, but from my understanding it's up to the CD.

Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana, Fish & Chips, Pizza Pirate, aft grill on starboard side late at night (opposite side of Pizza Pirate), MDR.

Small deck froward on Deck 7 is a good spot for sail away and for getting pics when arriving in port if you want to stay away from the crowds. Aft pool is nice and quiet because it is for adults only and no live music or games back there.

Both MDRs are on deck 3&4 and you can access them from deck 5. There is an elevator that is by the casino bar that lets out into the casino or the hall by the casino. That will cut down on the smoking smell. I just got off the Glory yesterday and the smoke smell wasn't bad to me. ( I don't smoke ) you can smell it, buts it's not really bad in the hallway before and after early dinner.

Most of your questions have been answered, but I'll toss in my two cents on the beds, since that is subjective and you may get contradictory answers, as I'm sure you expect with a question about something as subjective as mattress comfort. To me, the beds are comfortable on the Glory, as they are on all Carnival ships I've sailed. I prefer Carnival's mattresses to any other cruise line's I've sailed. I still wake up with a backache, as I often do at home, but not nearly as bad as with some other cruise line's beds. I find Carnival's sheets, pillows, and pillowcases acceptable as well.

Both MDRs are on decks 3 and 4.

Sorry, correction, Deck 3 for main entrance. But the point was the galley is in between them which is why you can access the front MDR from the atrium but have to go up to deck 4 (or any other deck), walk back to the rear elevator and take that down to deck 3 for the main entrance to the rear MDR.

You can actually get into both of the MDRs from Deck 4 as well as 3. Tea time is held in the Platinum (Aft MDR) on sea days on Deck 4. They won't let you in on Deck 3.

You can also go down to Deck 2 and go up one if you don't want to go through the casino way.

You are correct that the Galley in in between the 2 MDRs which is why you have to either go up or down to get across the ship.

My preferred route is to go via Deck 9, grab a snack on the way, and then the elevator down to 3. :D

One can take any deck to get back there except deck 3. Many routes other than through the casino.

A Snack before dinner?! It wouldn't make much sense for me to do that though as I like to stay on the lower decks, so it's usually just up a flight or 2 of stairs. It's nice because everyone is fighting to go down and it's a quick and easy walk up!

Note that if you want to get to the Aft MDR via Deck 4 forward, it will require one to go through the Ivory Club Bar. Not many people know that shortcut because you have to go down the stairs by the Taste Bar on Deck 5 to do so unless you cut all the way through the Golden (Midship) Dining Room.

I exercise when I'm at home just so I can be a glutton while on ship. :D

Nothing wrong with a small piece of cake or something like that as a pre-appetizer on the way to dinner. ;)

I'm usually so stuffed that some nights I can't even eat my favorite Chocolate Melting Cake. That doesn't stop me from getting pizza at midnight or so, though :)

Computer Nerd, thanks for your replies. In regard to going to the MDR, and having to walk through the Casino (NOT this ship) on other ships (cruising 26 years), the smoking has always been real bad, and that is why I ask about "this" ship.

Thank you for "answering" all my questions, as I am making notes before I go home from work here. :)

OK, so it looks like the MDR's are on Deck 3/4 and they can be reached by Deck 5, is that correct? Good to read that the smoke from the Casino is not bad.

As for the beds, I Agree. I LOVE Carnival beds, and was hoping they had not been changed, as they are better than any other cruise lines I have done.

Thank you ALL for your responses, this has really help me!

I'll be brief:

The beds were comfortable for me. We had an inner room and space wise were fine with lugagge and drawers, etc but we were not near you so I can't speak to that.

We got a kick out of some of the shows in the lobby atrium area (we actually stumbled onto it by accident) when some 80's music trivia was going on with the CD, Eric, which we got enjoyed. They probably post it in the funtimes since a good number of folks were there. If you are looking for good excursions on the western cruise (what we did on the Glory) feel free to shoot me a message.

Hi!

I just got off a cruise on Glory a couple weeks ago so I figured I would give you some answers.

I was also in an inside room on deck 8. Beds were comfortable and there was plenty of space for 2 people who both had a lot of stuff. I used Command strip hooks to add some hanging space in the room itself to dry bathing suits but otherwise there was plenty of storage and surfaces for everything else.

I ate in the Platinum dining room which is the one at the back of the ship. We would basically walk all the way to the back while on deck 8 and then go down the stairs to the dining room to avoid having to walk through any of the busier common areas.

As someone who is very sensitive to smoke and hates the smell of it, the couple of times I did have to walk through the casino it wasn't too bad, but it was an area I avoided. But just walking through didn't irritate me.

Our formal nights were the 3rd night and the 2nd to last night but I think that depends on your itinerary? Not sure.

I was unimpressed by most of the shows and often left during them (or if it was too awkward to leave, at least none of them are very long...) so mostly spent time after dinner watching the Dive-In movies. It was nice and warm on deck and people were courteous and quiet for those actually watching the movies.

And pretty much any time I was on the ship I was in the Serenity Deck area. The loungers are much more comfortable and you still have easy access to the food when you want lunch or a snack.

Have a good cruise!

Good to read the questions/answers from everyone on here.

I just found out the Blue Iguana, has tacos, burritos, etc, or Mexican food. That is right up our alley, even though we are not Mexican. :)

I don't know if you know, but as far as I know Carnival's rooms are a tad larger than the other ships.

Thanks for letting me know you were on Deck 8 and the inner room as well, and all the other advise about the MDR's.

I have a group headed out in January on the Glory, and specifically wondering about the formal nights. Can you tell me if you were on the East or West Itinerary?
