Can cruise price go up after deposit is paid?

I know I should know this, and I know its in the fine print somewhere in the Celebrity brochure, but ... can the price of the cruise go up after I pay my deposit? I am booked on the Horizon on the deck that may or may not get balconies added. If we get lucky and they add a balcony, can they charge more? If fuel continues to rise in cost, can they charge more? icon_confused.gif

You're fine. The cruiseline will honor the booked price you paid a deposit against. The folks that haven't booked and are thinking about it better make up their minds though as they will probably pay more if things continue as they are right now.

Whatever you have booked and put a deposit on is safe. If you want to make any change however they will charge you the new price. I tried this last year when I wanted to upgrade. They wouldn't allow me to pay the difference between the current rate of my cabin and the current rate of the new cabin, they wanted to charge me the difference between my price on my current cabin and the new rate on the cabin I wanted. I wasn't happy but I do feel this is fair.

Booked and ready for next March. Price of cruise has almost doubled since I put the deposit down.

I know others said it, but I want to confirm again, from experience, they will honor your booked price. We sailed on the Connie in Feb. When we booked, we chose a "1A" room (9126). A few months later, Concierge Class was introduced. I called our TA to see how much more it was going to cost us in case we wanted to change, and were told - no extra charge! Great deal for us.

One thing than can happen and it happened to us once on a cruise is that they reserve the right to charge an additional fee for a fuel surcharge. I think that is in the fine print somewhere because we did not have an option - it was added to our cabin charge account.

I suspect they will try to avoid any significant (above $10-15) fuel surcharge. Too many pax budget VERY carefully to do cruises, especially families and it would cause too many hard feelings and could cause revenue loss in other areas like bingo, bars, wine at dinner, and casino. I know I am planning and paying for a family cruise of 6 people in 3 cabins. I am picking up cruise, tips and air. A significant fuel surcharge would cause me to "adjust" other items in my budget.

Back in the mid 70's when there was that oil embargo and prices rose, we were booked, had tickets in our hands, and a couple of weeks before sailing we were advised there would be an addtional "fuel surcharge". It was (if I can recall) $8 a day, per person. Not an outrageous amount, but remember, it was a 14 day cruise that we only paid around $750 pp to begin with.
