murph1031 Posted October 12, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 12, 2016 We are sailing on the Getaway early November. We have looked at excursion options and nothing is jumping out at us. So we are thinking of getting off the boat only to explore the immediate port area, grab a few souvenirs and get back on the boat. So my question is will most stuff still be open on the boat port days? This is a western Caribbean cruise, Belize etc. Will the casino be open while in port, we don't play the tables, just the slots. If we lounge on the deck, we will still be able to get lunch and drinks etc right? Thanks Rob
bzmom2girls Posted October 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 12, 2016 Little French Key and Maya Chan are supposed to be amazing. You book them independently of Norwegian.
hawkeyetlse Posted October 12, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2016 The casino and shops will be closed in port. There will be some bars open. Everything up on the pool deck will be operating (unless the weather is bad). For lunch, your choices will be the buffet or O'Sheehans, usually no MDR is open for lunch in port. The spa will be open, and they usually have special offers on port days. There will be a limited schedule of activities (trivia, movie screenings, etc.). You can also hit the gym :p
GUT2407 Posted October 12, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2016 Nothing wrong with staying on board. Shops and Casino closed, bars and buffet open, MDR normally closed.
Rare BirdTravels Posted October 13, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 13, 2016 The ship is fully functional. Buffet, MDR, o'shehans will be open for lunch. Many of the bars will be closed. But your freestyle daily will tell you where to get a drink. The ship is very peaceful while in ports. Enjoy.

Thanks Rob casino including slots are closed on port days due to gambling laws typically and shops will be closed due to them being duty free. port days on the ship can be a good time to try some of the upper deck stuff like the slides, rope climb etc or just relax by the pool or h20 with a drink as everyone else will be off the ship. you should get off at some of the ports. Roatan was beautiful island but poor but definetly worth a trip around the island. No need to book and excursion just grab a taxi. we paid $80 for a full day for three of us to drive around the island. Half moon bay is lovely.western caribbean stops lower down are new stops on the trips so Id recommend them before they get too commercialised with the likes of all the diamond duty free, tshirt shops, liquor etc. Cozamel you wont miss much unless you want to drink at hooters :D

negn Posted October 13, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 13, 2016 Stayed on ship on our recent GA cruise. I HATE tendering. I enjoy the less crowded facilities
Rare PhillyTravelBug Posted October 13, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 13, 2016 We stayed on in Cozumel except to check out the shops. We did the ropes course, booked a massage, and had the thermal spa to ourselves. Which port are you staying on?
