Viking Star clips the Cape Cod Canal railroad bridge!

Hi from the South Shore of Massachusetts,

A friend of mine who lives along the Cape Cod canal shot this video of the Viking Star passing through on Weds night. You can see that the antenna scraps the canal's railroad bridge! Apparently the height of the vessel at high tide was not more carefully considered. Hope that the folks at Viking work carefully with local officials to better plan the next passage!

Air draft is clearly indicated on the Pilot Information card, so the pilot should have known whether the ship would fit or not, so he/she is just as liable as Viking for the incident. USCG incident investigation report should be interesting.

We went through late evening Oct. 10th on another ship without incident. Maybe we had a better pilot onboard, or perhaps a lower water level despite somewhat weird weather due to Hurricane Matthew. The Captain lowered part of the mast. He had been through the Canal at least once before. It was an interesting passage.
