Best place for a luau?

I have been to both. I prefer Old Lahaina. I think the overall show, and setting is much nicer at old Lahaina. I really didn't like some of the food offered at feast of lele. I guess I really preferred at buffet. The selection is outstanding at Old Lahaina.

Our cruise includes an overnight in Honolulu and a stop til 11 in Lahaina. Which would be the best choice for a luau? Any special suggestions?

Perfect location and perfect schedule for either Old Lahaina Luau or The Feast at Lele (also in Lahaina).

Those would be my recommendations in Lahaina & you can search this forum for details comparing both options.

Briefly the OLL is a traditional Hawaiian buffet luau & the Feast at Lele is table service food & drink with entertainment & food from four Polynesian cultures.

Both are oceanfront & owned by the same company and I agree with reviews that they're the best options.

Is there transport available to the Old Lahaina luau, or do you have to get there and back on your own?

The OLL doesn't have a transportation option & Google Maps shows a 1.2 mile/24 minute walk from the harbor.

From the Wharf Cinema Center near the Lahaina harbor there is an hourly $2 shuttle bus to the Lahaina Cannery Mall which is across the street from the OLL.

Lahaina to Ka'anapali is a longer taxi ride & costs about $12 but not sure about a 1.2 mile ride to OLL.

Agree with Astro Flyer, and want to note also if you debate between OLL and the other option of The Feast at Lele, it is practically next door to the tender dock. Both excellent choices and not much travel in either case.

Old Lahaina Luau is the best.

Polynesian CC is a good time for a visit but not if that's your only luau. The food is horrendous and there's no alcohol allowed because of the religious backing.

Can you get there by cab?

I don't know whether you'll be tendering into Lahaina or docking in Kahului and previously posted Lahaina information.

If in Kahului that's a 45 minute drive one-way without any traffic delays. Unfortunately just normal traffic along the coastline to Lahaina will experience routine delays or worse. On average, several times per month that 2-lane road can be closed for hours due to accidents, rockslides or brushfires. There's no other good route because the extremely narrow sections of Kahekili road near Kahakuloa make the Road to Hana appear like a highway. Unfortunately several times per year visitors & locals in their car roll down the steep hill often resulting in fatalities. :(

Here are links to a taxi website (about $140 roundtrip) & to Maui County's limited bus service.

If considering the bus between Kahului & Lahaina, Google Maps has the option to input that information to show bus options.

Smith's Garden Luau on Kauai is my favorite. It is family run and in a beautiful natural tropical setting. If your ship docks overnight at Nawiliwili, Smith's is a good option as it is not a far taxi ride from the dock.

If you do this are taxis readily available to get back to the ship?
