traveller236 Posted November 19, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2016 We'll be in St. Maarten from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and would like to take a taxi or bus to Orient Beach for a few hours and then go shopping. Is this plan doable, or should we book a tour through the cruise line? From what I've read, it appears traffic is a major problem and taxis are expensive. What's the best, inexpensive areas to shop for souvenirs and local artisans jewelry? Thanks.

angnadam Posted November 19, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2016 Very easy to do. Taxi stand has set prices, we usually wait for another couple to cut the price a little. After beach time, easy shopping. We do it every time. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Hlitner Posted November 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 19, 2016 Taxis are actually very reasonable (rates are set by the government) and you can easily get a shared taxi to Orient (taxi reps at the port will pair you with others) which saves money. When you leave Orient you simply walk out to the parking area and there will be taxis. The drivers usually organize shares and they will drop you in Phillipsburg or at the Port (the price should be the same). From town you can either grab the water taxi over to the port, or just walk.
