Richjoxyz Posted December 10, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 10, 2016 We are boarding the Magic next Saturday for two weeks. How's the entertainment these days? I have observed the quality of production shows go down in my opinion. And they don't have shows every night any more. I usually make due and manage to find single musicians that I enjoy. Are there any live bands? Any bands with horns? I have to hand it to Princess, Celebrity and Holland America with respect to entertainment. Carnival entertainment has morphed into a glorified youtube video with a pretend piano player or something similar. Please tell me I am mistaken... Richjoxyz Posted December 10, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 10, 2016 Sounds like you've already answered your own question and drawn your own conclusions. True, but I was surprised by the Dream. The dream had good shows and live music during the shows. I am hoping the Magic surprises me too. Carnival is a good cruise line, I am Platinum and I enjoy the product. Some things are improved, like the comedy shows. It seems to me the showroom shows are not as good as they used to be, nor plentiful as they used to be in the past. So while I have drawn conclusions regarding the ships i have sailed, I have not sailed the Magic, hence my response and question.
SKosto Posted December 10, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted December 10, 2016 (edited) We are boarding the Magic next Saturday for two weeks. How's the entertainment these days? From your post, you may be slightly disappointed. There were 4 production shows, 2 were all canned music (88 Keys and Flick), 1 (Country Road) had live drums, and the last (America Rocks) had all live music 1 guitar, 1 bass, drums, and part with harmonica and another with the 3 piece horn trio). While flick was all canned, I felt the presentation was amazing, I believe it is one of their newest shows. The Guitarist Jerry was a good player, but not a good singer. I did not get to here much from the Brass group (Atomic Theory). Dolce Trio, who played string instruments was pretty good. #sixappeal was pretty good, they were the full band. I did not care for the country duo at all, and the piano bar player Elizabeth was amazing, but this was her last cruise. Ultimately, like with everything else in life, I think you'll get what you want out of it. If you go in with an open mind you may be surprised, however if you go in with a closed mind, you may be disappointed. Jelly_Toast Posted December 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 10, 2016 I really enjoyed flick and 88 keys. We didn't go to the country music show because we aren't fans, but I think that Dr. E said it was debuting on our cruise so it was definitely new. I only went to the country show because my fiance, is a fan of the more modern country, and wanted to check it out.

We didn't go to the country show (not a fan) but saw the other three. Flick was not liked by our group but we liked 88 Keys and loved America Rocks. We were in total agreement with your assessment of the other bands. It was a difficult decision most nights to determine what we wanted to do. We didn't get to see much of the comedy because we were more interested in the big shows as we had not seen any of them before. Had a great trip all-in-all! crusinpsychRN Posted December 11, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 11, 2016 Serenity had 2 people on one side and 2 on the other the day I went up to look around. Wish they had umbrellas up there.
harry0 Posted December 11, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 11, 2016 We were on this cruise also-didnt like flick-a little strange imo The Rock show was very good-just wish they would have had a guy sing Freebird! nothing against the girl-but Freebird needs to be sung by a guy The Band was great especially the guitarist
cparkerkite Posted January 4, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Is the stink of cigarette smoke that bad in the atrium on the Magic? I've read reviews that it is really stinky in the entire atrium area, shops, etc. I understand in the casino, but I avoided those areas and didn't have any issues on Dream or the Oasis. But, many people have said it permeated the entire atrium area. I soooo want to go on the Magic and get a spa suite, but that might be a deal breaker for me and some of the folks traveling with me. Thanks for your advice!

crusinpsychRN Posted January 4, 2017 #16 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Pig and Anchor was good if you put enough BBQ sauce on it. Varied from long lines to no line.
heffa72 Posted January 4, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 4, 2017 What did you end up doing for excursions that week? Did you happen to keep any of the fun times to share? Thanks for posting!!
cjnix29 Posted January 4, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 4, 2017 we were on that sailing too. We actually liked Flik, did not like 88 keys....that one was just weird to us. enjoyed the rock show. We liked the live music they had all over the ship, and really enjoyed the brass trio. We were disappointed with food and dining service, but we had a great time overall. In Costa Maya, we just got off the ship and walked around. In Roatan, we booked Victor Bodden tours....can't say enough good things about that. In Belize we did the Altun Ha and city tour, and in Cozumel, we went to Nachi Cocham. Great holiday cruise!
