CruisingMom77 Posted December 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 14, 2016 I was wondering about fellow Canadians on recent MSC Divina cruises out of Miami. The last time we were on a cruise was in April 2014 and we are booked for next April. What are the experiences with embarkation/disembarkation? I do not recall any big hassles only a relatively long wait for customs at disembarkation in Miami at the end of the cruise, but other than that, nothing really. The custom agent took a quick look at our Canadian passports and let us go through. We did not have anything to declare either. I was wondering if anything has changed recently? Are you asking with regards to Post #7 in this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2431500 It seems strange but perhaps security is being increased for some reason... CruisingMom77 Posted December 14, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted December 14, 2016 Yes. I saw that post and found it weird. Never been fingerprinted since I became a Canadian citizen. I was when I traveled to to the Usa as European. If requirements had changed for Canadians I think it would be on the news or on travel.gc.ca. Rare All-ready2cruise Posted December 14, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 14, 2016 Well, if it pertains to Canadians, I can't find any reference to it so, it'll be a challenge on our next cruise. If they are doing this for MSC, wouldn't they be doing it to all cruise lines? Why would they single out one cruise line on which to implement these strict security threat assessments with mandatory finger printing? Still seems strange.. CruisingMom77 Posted December 14, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted December 14, 2016 I called MSC. The agent said that this heightened security was due to the ports visited during the last 2 10 day cruises. He said time to time it happens. He said that these two cruises visited ports that were different from the usual itineraries.
Rare All-ready2cruise Posted December 14, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 14, 2016 Thanks for doing that CM77, that was going to be my next step. I wonder if they visited Cartagena, Columbia... oh well, not going to worry about it, they can take my finger prints if they want but unlikely they will. Enjoy your cruise, Cheers,
CruisingMom77 Posted December 14, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted December 14, 2016 You are welcome. Yes they visited Colombia. That was one of the ports along with panama and Costa Rico. He said it was probably due to Colombia.
