Another scenario might be that the Vista 3 could be headed for the China market. The Splendor was originally going there, but since RC, NCL and Princess are all sending new builds there, maybe Carnival wants to keep up. China is the fastest growing market in the world right now. Carnival could then either bring the Spirit back or deploy it permanently to Aussie. Just speculating.

John Heald just posted that it is scheduled to start Nov 2019. I am soo hoping it stays in Europe for at least a few weeks. Would love to be on it for our Thanksgiving cruise:)

China has slowed way.....down. Carnival is working with them to bring out their own nationalized ships. I would be more than shocked to see a brand new Carnival ship go there.... that said, who knows...

There will be two Vista-class ship built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the first of which is due in 2023. Fincantieri is involved not only in the actual build, but in developing the infrastructure and supply chain to support building cruise ships in China.
