American Express offer: $100 off $500+ Cruise Lines

Have paid for my Carnival cruise in full. I would like to know if anyone has been successful in buying the Cheers package and getting the Amex offer?

thanks

I'm 99.99% sure it won't work. It needs to show as Carnival Reservations, not the Fun Shops. You can always try then cancel Cheers if it doesn't take and get a refund back to your card.

It really depends on the cruise line. With Royal, online purchases of stuff like drink packages worked for the AMEX offer. With Holland America, it did not. However, I was able to call HAL and purchase on board credit, and that qualified for the offer (which in this case could then be used to buy the drink package once on board). Obviously this is going to be YMMV for Carnival. As you say, it all depends on how the charge posts.

I know you're paid in full - but if you're not past that magic date that you're required to pay in full, try calling and asking if they'll refund $500 and then repay it right away with your AMEX. They might work with you if you explain why...

I just looked at my past statements and my Cheers/Fun Shop purchases showed up differently than my booking.

The Cruise Cash is also a Fun Shop purchase so I think it will be coded the same as Cheers. When I purchased BB and Cheers (not on the same sailing, obviously) they come up as Fun Shops. Notice the difference.

But like I said before, try buying Cheers with it and if the offer doesn't show as redeemed, then call and cancel and get the charges reversed.

And as I said, I purchased Holland America OBC by phone thru Ship Services (this week, in fact), and it posted as Holland America Reservations and qualified for the AMEX offer. When I had tried buying it online (just $5 as a test case), it showed up as Holland America Web and did not, according to someone bought excursions from the same site.

Obviously I don't know if it will behave the same way with Carnival (and have no Carnival reservation to try it with) but someone could try making a small OBC purchase thru their Ship Services department (or its equivalent) and see how it posts to AMEX.

So even if I paid through Amex 2 weeks ago adding this code now still works? Sailing today btw

YMMV. I have read on other threads for this deal that some people who added the offer after the charge then contacted AMEX customer service and were able to get the offer applied after the fact. It won't happen automatically at this point.

OK, So go here >>> http://www.americanexpress.com/wlcl

Log in if it asks. add the deal to your card and then make at least a $500 payment to Carnival and $100 credit should show up on your cards statement? what if I do a $1000 payment will you get $200 back or does it need to be 2 separate $500 payments OR is it 1 $500 offer 1 time only and you cant repeat the deal again?

Just want to make sure I don't screw this up and not get the deal.

It's one offer of $100 off per card. If you want $200 off, you will need to have the offer on 2 different cards and make 2 transactions of $500 each.

Agree. Just added 2 Authorized Users to my account, got them set up online with log ins, and added the offers. Now I'm just going to have to book a sleeper cruise until I figure out where I'm going next [emoji41].

Just remember when you get the card and call to activate to select the option that you want that card to have its own login

Also you can get additional cards in your own name ... I don't have any authorized users other than my husband and when I went to add him I accidently added myself to my own card - It came in the mail so I created a second account and got my discount

Too funny! I would, but I've got 2 more cards to use the offer on and I don't think I'll be booking anything that's $1500. I'm cheap! LOL! But thanks for the info. It's very good to know.

I never thought to add my kids to our cc. I researched it and it is a good thing if you have responsible kids that understand money. Plus it will be so helpful when oldest goes to college, so we aren't always having to send money. ;p So added my oldest to our amex and will see if we can get the deal for her card also.

Hi.

I booked a Vista Havana Cabana cruise last year for February 2018.

I have a little over $3,000 to pay for the cruise and not yet in final payment.

Is it correct, I can go online and use my Amex and pay the balance and get $100 refunded?

Also, can I go onto my account and pay off $500 at a time, up to $3000 and closer to final

payment and for every $500, get the $100 credit back to me?

Thank you very much for all your help. I appreciate it.

You will need to have a second card with it's own login to get the deal

Just add an authorized card to your account and when it comes in the mail and you go to the webpage to activate choose the option that lets you have a separate login for this card - Once you login add the offer again and make a $500 payment

PS the authorized cards can be in your own name - I have 3 cards in my name for the same account

you may be able to do what we do sometimes and use our Amex card at the grocery store that gives us 6% cashback to buy $500 visa or carnival gift cards and pay it off that way. six percent off is better than nothing :)

What? Just out of curiosity, I inquired on this. They will cancel and replace my other card, but not issue a second one w/ my name & keep both cards active. And the offer is good "per member card" according to the agent ... so if I replace my card, but have used the offer, I cannot get it again w/ my new issued card. Maybe you will get lucky ... but you might want to consider that you may have the credit revoked. JS

I have though redeemed the credit on all 3 of our cards.

I am not talking about replacing your card

Where you go to add an authorized user - Like getting a card in your wife's name - Just do your own name - I have done this on both my card and my husbands card

Login > to the right hand side near the middle/bottom of screen you can add someone to your account -- Just use your own information

On my husbands account he has an additional card in his name and 2 cards in my name

On my account I have 3 additional cards in my name and 2 additional card in his name

You just have to create a separate login for it when you get the card - I can still use my original card
