Skai Posted January 2, 2017 #27 Share Posted January 2, 2017 Just for the sake of accuracy in reporting...There is a difference in being voted among the "best winners" -- (There are 10 total "winners") -- and actually being voted #1. When going to USAToday's site it states: Carnival Cruise Lines Named Best Ocean Cruise Line! Princess Cruises, Viking Ocean Cruises, Costa Cruises and Crystal Cruises also winners The top 10 winners in the category Best Ocean Cruise Line are as follows: Carnival Cruise Lines Princess Cruises Viking Ocean Cruises Costa Cruises Crystal Cruises Norwegian Cruise Line Royal Caribbean International Disney Cruise Line Celebrity Cruises Holland America Line 10Best Local Experts and Editors picked the initial 20 nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Experts Doug Parker (Cruise Radio), Fran Golden (USA TODAY), Gene Sloan (USA TODAY) and Stewart Chiron (The Cruise Guy) were chosen based on their extensive experience with the cruise industry. Additional nominees for Best Ocean Cruise Line were Azamara Club Cruises, Cunard, MSC Cruises, Oceania Cruises, Paul Gauguin Cruises, Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line, SeaDream Yacht Club, Silversea Cruises and Windstar Cruises. Congratulations to all of our winning cruise lines!
shepp Posted January 2, 2017 #28 Share Posted January 2, 2017 Yeah, I'm so sure that Carnival is better than Seabourn and Regent. But then, I haven't sailed on Seabourn or Regent, and I bet that 98% of USA Today Readers haven't either. OK, 99%.
OCruisers Posted January 2, 2017 #29 Share Posted January 2, 2017 Lol. How is it even possible that readers of a US based paper vote higher for Costa than RCI, HAL & Celebrity? That's crazy. Agree, sort of makes you wonder who is voting? Also that Carnival was rated #3 ?
Skai Posted January 2, 2017 #30 Share Posted January 2, 2017 Yeah, I'm so sure that Carnival is better than Seabourn and Regent. But then, I haven't sailed on Seabourn or Regent, and I bet that 98% of USA Today Readers haven't either. OK, 99%. Of course. 'Reader's Choice' is about familiarity. The point here is that the order is irrelevant as the top-10 all got participation/recognition trophies as being "the best". Princess touting themselves as #1 based on this survey is rather tacky. If anything, Princess (as a mainstream line) is closer to Carnival than Princess is to the luxury lines of Viking and Crystal...or Seabourn and Regent for that matter.
