hardingk Posted June 2, 2004 #1 Share Posted June 2, 2004 If you were to book a cc category room on the Mercury or Galaxy, would you book a cabin on the sky deck or the Penthouse deck? Has anyone ever stayed on the Sky deck before? ___________________________ RCL~Legend 5/2004, Navigator 8/2003, Majesty 7/2003, Radiance 4/2003, Monarch 8/2002, Nordic Empress 8/2001 Celebrity~Century 7/2001 & 7/1998, Horizon 7/1991 Future Cruises: Enchantment of the Seas 8/30/2004 Brilliance of the Seas 1/14/2005 Till Belize on the Enchantment of the Seas! excitedofharpenden Posted June 2, 2004 #2 Share Posted June 2, 2004 hardingk I haven't stayed on the Sky deck before (only Penthouse), but if you can nab one of those CC cabins with the large balcony there, I would! They are three times the size of the Penthouse deck. There are only four so good luck! FTBLCOACH Posted June 2, 2004 #4 Share Posted June 2, 2004 Just got off Mercury a month ago. We were in 1217 (inside cabin) and were absolutely thrilled with the location. For our money, Deck 12 is the place to be due to the close proximity to everything. Buffet one floor down, dining room right as you get off the elevator, Navigator bar straight across the pool deck, corridor doors open onto the deck above the pool...etc. 12 is the best deck to be on IMHO. hardingk Posted June 5, 2004 Author #5 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Thanks everyone for your help. We actually decided to go up another category and book a Sky Suite!!!! We got cabin 1203 which looks to have a HUGE balcony! Has anyone every stayed there before? Also, ccletzgo & FTBLCOACH, could you feel the motion of the ship more up there or was it the same everywhere? ___________________________ RCL~Legend 5/2004, Navigator 8/2003, Majesty 7/2003, Radiance 4/2003, Monarch 8/2002, Nordic Empress 8/2001 Celebrity~Century 7/2001 & 7/1998, Horizon 7/1991 Future Cruises: Enchantment of the Seas 8/30/2004 Brilliance of the Seas 1/14/2005 Celebrity Mercury 4/7/2006 Till Belize on the Enchantment of the Seas! ccletzgo Posted June 5, 2004 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2004 we sailed the inside passage (alaska) so most of the cruise was pretty calm. I dont remember any motion in our cabin. when we hit open water, I felt it on the entire ship, no matter where we were. I like the motion, so I may not be a good judge. I will pay attention in sept. and post when I return.
excitedofharpenden Posted June 5, 2004 #7 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Congrats hardingk! I am sure you will love your Sky Suite with that huge balcony and patio doors to it. The room you have is great and a butler too! Have a great cruise! smith-dave39 Posted June 5, 2004 #8 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Great Choice, I have been on both ships and both decks. I would choose 1200 or 1201 if you want the most bang for your buck on those ships. I'm not sure about the Century because we haven't sailed her yet. Have a great cruise! Oppgaard Posted June 5, 2004 #9 Share Posted June 5, 2004 You did the best thing possible by upgrading to a Sky Suite. We just got off Mercury a week ago after a 12 night trip to Alaska out of San Francisco. We were in SS #1231 but friends of ours were in #1203. Our butler's name was Rasti and he was absolutely fantastic. If you see him, please tell him that Beurt and Jerry said to say hello. The entire staff on this cruise was fantastic. barbydaul Posted June 5, 2004 #11 Share Posted June 5, 2004 Dear Desert Cruiser, Did your friends like 1203? My husband, mother and myself will be in that cabin next March on the Galaxy. Would appreciate any info you can give. I know that 3 people will be somewhat crowded, especially getting ready for dinner, but we can handle that ok. Thanks, Barb GALAXY 11-NIGHT PANAMA CANAL
JORAY Posted June 5, 2004 #12 Share Posted June 5, 2004 We were the couple in 1203 that Jerry talk about on the Alaska cruise. Have pictures but the room is the SS cabin floor plan as shown on many web sites. As Jerry said the deck and location are the best. Barb --I assume someone will be on the sofa bed which will block the sliding glass door to the deck. You will have plenty of drawers assuming you bring half of what you think you need. HollyK Posted June 9, 2004 #18 Share Posted June 9, 2004 Hi HardingK, You definitely made the right move to a Sky Suite on Sky deck. As others have noted, the BEST deck to be on! I don't have pics of 1203 but do of 1215. The suite will be exactly the same except for the cut in the deck. We chose that on purpose for 'viewing' purposes. The deck was still very roomy - even had dinner for 4 out there one night. Haven't loaded the pics yet (I mean its only been 3 months ) but will try to get with that program over this weekend. Here's the link - check on Sunday & see if I've gotten my act together yet! MexRiv-SkySuite1215 Agree entirely with you Oppgaard - Rasti was/is a FABULOUS Butler! We enjoyed him immensely and could not have asked for better care and attention. Editing as I forgot to mention - there are already pictures of SS's there (on the site link I provided) now courtesy of other cruisers. They will give you a pretty clear idea as all SS's are essentially the same on Sky Deck. The only diff's are some balconies are a full square, some have a left angle cut & some a right angle cut and perhaps the pictures on the walls.
