Question about the CHEERS! Program

Maybe in my second life when I can afford to drink as much as my body wants to drink! Until then, that won't be an option

Then adjust the number of drinks you drink to the number you can afford to pay for. Another option is buying a bottle of liquor for your cabin from the Fun Shops. It's pricey but it saves you overall compared to what you'd pay per drink.

I don't plan to drink more than 15 alcoholic drinks in a 24 hour period but if I did, can I buy a drink off the card? ok am I cut off? just curious

As someone has already said, buy them before you hit 15. But, the trick is you are buying them "for a friend". You can't buy for a friend with your Cheers!, but you can buy a round for someone else and pay full price for it. You do this BEFORE you hit 15 drinks because they can (and apparently will) cut you off at 15 drinks, meaning you can't even buy drink number 16.

That's why the bartender will sometimes tell you "you have had 12 drinks" or something like that. It's a friendly reminder that you may want to start buying rounds for friends. It's more likely you will be told how many drinks you have had as you approach the magical number 15.

I posted this on another thread and that may not have been the appropriate location.

Never have cruised on Carnival but on other cruise lines the drink packages are often on sale or heavily discounted when combined with the internet packages. Does Carnival offer special deals on Cheers and wifi? If we order now to save on the 2018 price increase and a deal is offered can we cancel the purchased package in order to reorder it at the the discount? RCCL allows that.

It was answered on other thread, the responder could have been typing and you didn't notice, highly unlike Carnival will discount.

The discount is by pre-purchasing it. You save $5.00 per day by pre-purchasing .

And yes it is going up $2.00 a day come Jan. 1st.

Carnival doesn’t discount their Cheers package with the exception of $5 per person per day when bought ahead of time. You can cancel up to the day before your sailing (I think - could be 2 days) for a refund.

Same thing for internet. It’s cheaper ahead of time. I have never seen a package deal.

Well, I have hit the magic 15 a few times before. They always start warning me at about 12-13. It is usually the days where we have early pool activity with beer or bloody marys or even Baileys and coffee, then a full fun active night.

Also, if you are thinking of a way to skim the system, Don't! If you thought it up, a hundred have already tried it! If you are lucky enough to get a "Free" drink, be Thankful and not Boastful! Tip well and often and you never know what may happen.

Sailing on Carnival for the second time in Nov, first w/ the Cheers! program (had several times on RCI).

I was looking at the 'fine print' of the program and it states that all cans and bottles will be served open. In your experience, are bottles really opened? Was hoping to grab some for excursions/beach days.

Also, can you order an alcoholic drink w/ a bottle of water at the same time or is there still a 5 min wait? Not looking to skim or cheat, I just like to bring my own water enhancers to make my own cocktails w/ vodka (Arnold Palmers anyone?! :) )

They don't have to scan your S&S card with the Cheers sticker on it, they can just type in your folio number, but they are not suppose to.

Either way you will be "charged" for the drink and it will count against your 15 limit.

They don't ever serve a alcohol beverage without printing a receipt. Now, even the Drinks on Us card you get in the casino are counted against your 15 limit, so not really free.

Drinks on Us is NOT counted toward your 15 limit.

Yes, they open the ‘bottled’ beer. You can only get one - no buckets.

Bottled water is not served open. And yes, you can get the bottled water WITH your alcoholic drink.

Just realized I never said bottled water in my first post. Oops! Thanks for reading between the lines

It is indeed. We have been told by casino hosts, bartenders and servers working the casino bars and Casino that your allowed 15 with the DOU card even if you have cheers and that's the max per day. Just so you know

I do know. I've had the DOU card and Cheers and DOU has nothing to do with your limit with Cheers!

So your telling me that you can get to 15 drinks using cheers and get cutoff for the day correct? They say you cannot even purchase liquor after the max 15 drinks correct? But once your maxed out you can get free drinks from the casino but they won't let you pay for drinks and get additional revenue? I think the staff that told me the rules are correct

To be quite honest, my main concern was if one of the people traveling with us in a different stateroom wanted to get a drink for themselves (they may drink 1 a day, if that) would they be able to take my card and order a drink? Or would I need to be the one to go order it and just give it to my friend?

Like others have said your photo pops up. If your friend wanted to try and get one on your card I would suggest using one of the servers that walk around by the pool. They just write down your folio number. But be careful as you don't want to get caught.

True...they have their rules for not buying anymore if you have hit your 15 limit. As I said, DOU has nothing to do with Cheers.

I was in the casino one night and knew I was close to my limit for the day. I asked the casino bar server to check for me and he told me that DOU doesn't count towards the Cheers package. The Casino Host confirmed it. I went to another bar a short time later and still had 8 drinks left on my Cheers whereas I should have been done:Dfor the day!

Just my experience but I've always had both the Cheers and DOU..

We also enjoy Arnold Palmers or rather John Dalys and just buy a bottle of vodka from the Fun Shops online. Much, much less expensive than Cheers. You can also order a bottle from room service while onboard.

Oh I like wine and martinis too. But when people drink beer by the pool I have my vodka.

I'll definitely get my $$ worth for cheers. I used discounted gift cards so I theoretically paid $45/day

  • 2 weeks later...

my pet peeve with CHEERS is you cant get an alcoholic beverage and non alcoholic bev at the same time. I don't think they should lock out non alcoholic. Its a pain to wait 5 mins to get a bottle of water also with your Pina Colada. My second pet peeve is the free drink coupon you get as Gold or Platinum - its not needed if you have the drink package.
