Query: I am gold now and need 75 points to get to platinum. Under new program, a person will need 79 points. Do I remain under the 75 point tier level?

Sorry, no. You'll need 79 points for Platinum. Those who achieved the 75 currently needed for Platinum status but haven't reached 79 points will retain the status.

I checked the website yesterday and I still show platinum but have 184 points. I guess they haven't gotten around to updating yet, just so they do before we leave in 7 weeks.

I wouldn't expect them to have updated before the 3rd, as the old scheme is still applicable at the moment.

If you were boarding a ship today then you would be Platinum on that cruise, so for today at least we are still platinum.

Having said that, I'll be surprised if we log in tomorrow and find it's changed. I suspect it will take a week or so, but we may be surprised by their efficiency.

All that the grandfathering clause says is that you won't be pushed back from a level you have already achieved. To move up a level, you will need to hit the new target.

Here is a summary, based on the points currently showing in your account:

1-19 points - You are currently bronze and stay there. You will now need 30 points rather than 20 to hit silver

20-29 points - You are currently silver and will stay there, despite only having the points for bronze under the new scheme. You will now need to reach 55 rather than 48 for gold.

30-47 points - You are currently silver and stay there. You will now need 55 points rather than 48 for gold.

48-55 points - You are currently gold and will stay there, despite only having the points for silver under the new scheme. You will now need to reach 80 rather than 76 for platinum.

56-75 points - You are currently gold and stay there. You will now need 80 points rather than 76 for platinum.

76-79 points - You are currently platinum and will stay there, despite only having the points for gold under the new scheme. You need 175 for platinum plus.

80-174 points - You are currently platinum and stay there. You need 175 points for platinum plus.

175-699 points - You are currently platinum but will move up to platinum plus.

700+ points - You've had too many cruises and need to start paying for extra ones for me.

thanks Keith,

I felt the same and certainly do not think they need a bunch of phone calls from passengers who have nothing better to do than see their level appear correctly immediately. Thanks again.

I was going to turn gold on my cruise of 2/12 but now I am still going to be at silver under the new plan. I wrote to NCL's CEO and VP of passenger services to respectfully request that they grandfather in people in my situation. No response yet, but I urge anyone who is in a similar situation to write an email and ask. You don't lose anything by asking. Yes, NCL states that it has the right to change the program but my point is that Latitudes is to increase customer good will. Changing the program so I miss out on gold by a few days doesn't increase good will. It would cost them next to nothing to grandfather us in and it creates intangible good feelings.

Just to be clear, the post you quoted wasn't talking about situations like yours, and I'm sure they weren't commenting on whether you were right or wrong to contact NCL as you did.

Especially if you agree to grandfather yourself in to the old benefits. I.e. give them back the bottle of sparkling wine and the bottle of water, and refuse to accept the shorex discount, since those weren't offered to Gold members under the old program.

"Grandfathered" means keeping the SAME level, if qualifications change. This does no apply to you, sorry. You likely will "keep" the silver, where you are at now. IF you do get an "exception", then that opens up a whole another can of worms.

Yes, I would agree if offered! I like the old benefits better.

Why are we quibbling about terminology budget queen? I'm actually a lawyer with 22 years experience in contracts and litigation. An exception based on a prior state of affairs.... my usage is proper especially on a social forum. Let's play nice.

Also didn't mean to high jack this thread with my own spin. Was working in a stream of consciousness, that if you have a complaint you should address it to someone at NCL.

I go in peace.

You posted a great recap of the changes in Latitude's Tiers.

However, I must take exception to your opinion regarding 770+ points:

" You've had too many cruises and need to start paying for extra ones for me. "

Are you some kind of "Socialist" ?

It should read:

"700+ points, As in the song 'New York, New York' You're A number One, King of Hill, Top of the Heap. "

:p

LATITUDES REWARDS FAQ

Now I'm confused. If a person has 79 points, are they Gold or Platinum on their next cruise?

If you had 79 points before 3rd February then you will be Platinum.

If you go on a cruise now and it takes you up to 79 points then you will be Gold.

I'm asking based on the new criteria and am not usually this dense but sometimes my brain takes a break. :o

I'm Gold and will have 79 points when I complete my cruise in May. Will my Latitude level be Gold or Platinum when I board the Dawn in 2018?

On your May cruise you will be the latitudes level you currently have, which you say is gold.

If that cruise takes you up to 79 points then your status for the 2018 cruise will be based on the new levels, so you will still be gold I'm afraid.

Thanks for the clarification! I hate numbers & confuse myself all the time.

Has anyone received any clarification about the extra point per night for booking 9 months out or more? As in, if you booked while that was still in effect will we receive the extra points? We booked a 7 night Haven cruise for this July in September, which would have given us 21 points each rather than 14.

Yes, this has been confirmed in a number of different places.
