we3k9 Posted February 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 5, 2017 We are cruising on Breakaway the end of May. Group of 5. Two aft cabins on deck 9. My crew generally like to eat at the buffet. We realize its a much nicer meal in the dining rooms, it is just that it takes so long to get through a meal. In past experience sometimes one to two hours for dinner. My group likes to spend more time enjoying the ships activities and casino. How is the food at buffet? I have watched a few UTube videos of the food at the marketplace and it looks fantastic to me. How does it taste? We have a promo with the dining package and beverage package, so we plan on using that, but other than that, I want to eat at OSheehans and Margarittaville a couple times, and maybe try Modernos buffet. But most meals will be at the marketplace for my group. I hope its better than the last two NCL cruises. We didn't care for the food back then. cb at sea Posted February 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 5, 2017 I'm sure you will find the buffet food to be fine. If not, you can always give the dining room a go...since it's just YOUR party seated together, you can go as fast as you want!
Rare mking8288 Posted February 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 5, 2017 Try eating/booking in Taste & Savor, the 2 smaller MDR - it's a shorter trip to the gallery for the wait staff. Go early 5:30 or 6 PM as it open and get seated, tell the server you wanted to be out in 1 to 1.5 hours. Starter items (soup & salad) are ready, just a matter of bring them out all at once if you don't mind (some folks get upset & wanted to sit back, relax & one at a time ... wait staff can't read your minds and if you don't say it upfront ... whether you are go to a show next or back to the casino, etc.) Same with the entrees and pre-order your dessert with or w/o coffee/tea - portion sizes are "petite" so it's easy to finish the entree in 15 minutes - signal to your server/assistant to start getting your dessert & by the time they return from the gallery (they need to ride up/down the escalators with those heavy covered plates) - you should be putting away the forks & knives. Services in Manhattan, the larger MDR are always the slowest so avoid that and with 5 in your group, getting a table on the fast track should not be a problem even on a walk-in basis. Buffet is open till 9:30 PM so anyone hungry can always take a trip upstairs for extra portions and find something different or checkout the basic items in O'Sheehan's. WashyWashyHappyHappy95 Posted February 5, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 5, 2017 The food in the MDR's isn't that much better. Often it's the same food. On Asian night when they have egg rolls at the buffet, they happen to also have an egg roll appetizer in the MDR, and so on. The buffet food is generally pretty good. Their prime rib is fantastic. Don't waste your time and money in Margaritaville unless it's at the free breakfast bufet where it will be nice and quiet. O'Sheehan's is good especially when they have prime rib. The buffet has the same food that is served in the dining rooms, just not plated and served to you. Try the Manhattan Room for dinner at least once, but see if you can get a table up by the bandstand and dance floor. Hit the crepe station in the Garden Cafe for dessert. luckyinpa Posted February 6, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 6, 2017 ive heard nothing but good about nachos at Mville taste/savor/MDR are always 90 to 120 minutes. i went right when taste opened and it didnt matter. then when i found out i loved what i had for my meal i wanted more. the guy pretty much discouraged me and said too busy now. would take over 30 minutes. the issue with the buffet is rude people and timing. sometimes we walked around the entire thing and no seats. sat outside in the cold..brrrr if you like dancing make sure you are in MDR the night that burn the floor comes in at 9 and get a seat up behind the dance floor. they are literally right IN your face staring at your face and u may even get a kiss
