Marigot, Maho, and beach?

Hi all,

We are going to be in St. Maarten on March 22 and are trying to put our plans together. I would really like to go to Marigot, I think Maho would be fun for the kids, and we would like to spend some time at a beach. There will be 4-10 of us depending on who goes along; we will have a couple of kids (we're not opposed to nudity, but want to make sure the beach is safe from pollution).

Any suggestions for how to plan this day? Are these stops (specifically Marigot) worth it? Can you help me figure out taxi/van costs? I'm having trouble understanding all of the zones, per person etc. Cost is a factor, we want the flexibility of doing things on our own time, but probably cannot afford a private tour. Anything that I'm missing that would be better?

Thanks for your help!

We visited Marigot last year and went by local minivan/public bus. This was really easy and way cheaper and fun than any other way - it cost around 2US$ each, each way.

We flagged down a bus on Back Street. Although we didn't go there I did notice buses going to Maho too and plan to do this in March.

For that many people, the local bus (van) option might not be a good option since you're at the "beck and call" of when the bus gets to the stop and having to get to the first stop.

Here's a link to the taxi fares and zones in STM. Rates are per person.

I'd say you idea is a good one. Go to Marigot first, the depending upon the time come back to Maho in the afternoon when the big planes arrive.

Maho Beach is an okay beach for a little time. But if you want to spend more time, less noise, and less crowds head back to Mullet Bay.

We are there from 8-5 in May and definitely want to go to Maho Beach. Are you saying it's better not to go first thing in the morning? Are there only small planes then? I tried to look up flight schedules but can't figure out how to find them for that day. Do you have any suggestions?

Thank you!
