curious, where do you get milkshakes?
On the majority of the ships in the fleet (22), there is the coffee bar that has chocolate covered strawberries, fancy desserts and espresso based coffees both hot and cold. They also make regular milkshakes there. If you're sailing on the Sunshine, Vista or the Horizon, they have the Shake Spot, which is an expanded dedicated shake area that also has alcohol infused versions.

I get Cheers! on Carnival for my wife and I every time. She's not a heavy drinker, and even I haven't been able to hit the 15 drink mark, however, it doesn't really feel like vacation when you're doing $11 per drink + miscellaneous up-charge-super-tab at the end of the cruise.

That one more umbrella drink or game day beer seems like a chore or punishment that I would just regret at checkout. I prefer the pain up front: $500 (includes 5 days, taxes, miscellaneous solar system charges, gratuities, save the whales, random up-charge, etc) for two gets it out of the way before you leave. Even the cheapest mocktails and drinks would cost at least $750 for the amount you get.

It was a good deal for us when the max drink price allowed was $12. . now that it's supposedly $50, I'll destroy that in 3-4 drinks under the new rules. Even if my wife decides to stop drinking, 6 - 10 drinks a day easily pays for both (using top shelf stuff.) I'm just not worried.

The typical schedule: A couple flutes of champagne or mimosas at breakfast (Baileys and coffee for my other friends,) beers at lunch, wine with dinner, and then cocktails after dinner and at any clubs/shows. That's not how I live every day, but its how I go on vacation!

Sitting at a bar watching the game, or in the casino, I don't think 4 beers over a few hours is unreasonable. Paying $25 - $35 for that one afternoon, and $20 for a couple glasses of wine at dinner, however, would just irk me. There's the $50 the plan charges right there, and I'm done.

Do a Google search for Carnival drink prices and then map out what you might have.

I don't know about highest BUT ... more than many of the other drinks is the Cuban Iced Tea back in the Havana Bar. On the lines of Long Island Iced tea :D

Very Good .:tropical-drink::tropical-drink:.. and a nice soft buzz which I don't often get on cruise ship drinks after just one :D:D

Just to clarify....it will not cost you 500 for 5 days for the two of you. The cheapest that will be is 575. If you prepay for the program, it's 50 pp per day, if you wait till you're on board, it's 55. Add 15% tip and the amount goes to 575 or 632.50. The 50.00 drink limit is also a mirage. There is a 20.00 glass of champagne in the steakhouse and high end vodka, tequila and rum between 15-25. The only taxes involved are also on a per drink basis during embarkation day till the ship hits international waters or while in a US based port, all at the prevailing state's tax rate.

I'm a fan of the Cheers package. We just did the 8 night Vista. For that cruise it was $918 for the two of us. That's a lot of cash, but in the end, we were at the break even point. That doesn't matter that much to me. What did matter is that I found my new favorite cruise cocktail.....Cherry Grey Goose and Tonic. They are $10.95 a piece. I know that I would not have had that cocktail if I were paying for it on a drink by drink basis. I also tried the Jamaican Coffee after dinner......Superb! I would not have had that either.

My husband doesn't drink all that much, but in the end it was worth it to us.

If one of us did NOT drink, that would be crazy to buy a package for two people. Just purchase your drinks for one as you go.

Sorry was not trying to sound like I want to stick it to the man, just in would never normally buy a 50$ drink or a shot from the top shelf. So I would definitely love to be able to try some new things and see what I have been missing, or not missing, lol. If your on my 1st cruise it would definitely enjoy to sit down and have a drink with you! Or anyone! It's all about trying new things, meeting new people and making great memories!

This is our first Carnival Cruise (the only other cruise we did was on Princess in 2004 and they did not have a cruise package - our bar bill was $550.00 and we were pretty conservative). So we are weighing the pros and cons of this drink package, we are in the pro category right now, whereas water and specialty coffee and energy drinks are included (I'm a runner and *hope* to do some running on the cruise to counter balance all this drinking and eating - so water and energy drink I will take advantage of). I am also a bourbon drinker and I like the good stuff, Makers Mark, Woodford Reserve and Basil Hayden (I am hoping to get these on the ship, I called customer service and they could not confirm or deny that they had these).

Couple of questions: 1) For clarification, while we are sitting in the Port of Miami waiting for our ship to leave, we will be charges FL state tax on our drinks?!?! 2) We do not have the option of paying the tips in cash? We will be forced to pay the 15% gratuity upon purchase of the Cheers package? It would really irk me to pay 15% to a server who didn't deserve it, in the same regard I would tip higher for better service (BTW can you give additional cash tips on ship?, some all-inclusives we have stayed in discourage cash tipping).

Random other question... has anyone gotten up and gotten a drink BEFORE 6am on the day of arrival just to get that one last one in before you arrive at port??? I might be tempted to get up and have a fancy coffee or something and watch the sunrise :)

Thanks so much, looking forward to your responses.

I have found that on my last two cruises (Triumph and Ecstasy), finding the higher end liquors was impossible.
Both of those ships have Alchemy Bars, which should of had the Grey Goose VX. They both also have Blue Iguana Tequila Bars, which have Patron Anejo and Don Julio Reposado.

1) Yes, you're charged 5% FLA sales tax on embarkation day until the ship hits international waters. You're also charged if the ship stops in Key West. 2) You're charged 15% upfront on the price of the package. This amount goes into a pool which all of the servers and bartenders share. You can leave an additional tip on the slip you sign that will be charged to your account or you can give the person cash.

Also, buy the program before you get on board and it's 50 pp per day, otherwise it's 55 if you wait till you get on board. Don't know if the coffee bar is still on the Cheers program on disembarkation day. I have not had the Cheers program since it went all inclusive and added the espresso based coffees and other non alcoholic options.

Antone have any mixed foo foo drinks to get. I don't klikethe taste of hard liquor. I know last time I went I had a pina colada with a splash of chambord...about as heavy as I get. Also the price limit on the drinks used to be a lot less. When did they change this?

My cruise on the Freedom in December had Layer Cake Cab Sav for about $12 a glass. I sure hit my daily "pay off" with those at dinner! Already bought the cheers package for the Freedom in May! It's so worth it!!

The price limit used to be 10, now it's 50. It changed almost a year ago, I think. There are not many drinks though over 12 bucks. Have heard about a champagne in the steakhouse that is 20 as well as Grey Goose VX, Roca Patron tequila and Pyrat Cask rum that are all around 15.

If you want a mixed foo foo drink to get that the ladies love, get the Kiss on the Lips, consisting of peach schnapps, mango mix, splash of grenadine and it's frozen.

Any Pineapple drinks available anywhere?  We are going to be on the Vista.  My wife just has something for Pineapple drinks ever since Disneyworld.

P.S. Pineapple Drinks = drinks in an actual Pineapple not drinks with Pineapple juice in them.
