David Owl Posted February 20, 2017 #1 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I feel a bit stupid even asking this question but is it feasible to go up to the top on foot. My map says that it's 2.5 miles on the road but I wondered if there was a path that might cut off some of the twists and turns. The app says that it takes just over an hour, but the surface of my iPad is flat, so I am assuming that it takes several times as long in real life. And it there any public transport to get back down or would I have to walk back as well.
Rare tacticalbanjo Posted February 20, 2017 #2 Share Posted February 20, 2017 I went to Dalsnibba in May. It's way more than 2.5 miles away from Geiranger. According to the official website Dalsnibba is 21km away from Geiranger which is just over 13 miles. I seem to remember it being pretty high - it would not be a fun walk even if there was a more direct route which I suspect there is not.
Lanky Lad Posted February 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2017 A picture paints a 1000 words as they say, so here are a couple. A view of the ship from the mountain and one from the ship.
durante Posted February 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2017 :eek:No, please don't try walking this one, unless you are doing a hiking holiday in the area. Extremely steep, many twists and turns.
Rare david,Mississauga Posted February 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Although we did not go to Dalsnibba, I noticed this tour (or one like it) available at the tourist office. It was considerably cheaper than the excursion booked through Cunard. http://www.geirangerfjord.no/bus-tour-to-mt-dalsnibba That site has a link to an even cheaper bus trip: NOK 220. MCC retired Posted February 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Way more than 2 1/2 miles for sure . We did it by tour bus in May 2016 . About a 1/2 hour drive each way . Higher elevations were still snow covered toped off with a short blizzard while we were at the top.
David Owl Posted February 20, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted February 20, 2017 You are all right. I thought that the top was at the end of the winding road but it seems that there is a much longer road after that. I think a bus might be appropriate. Thanks to all who replied.
