Minoushka Posted September 6, 2017 #627 Share Posted September 6, 2017 Yes yes yes smoking should be banned indoors including the casino .I know of a few people who never smoked but worked in smoky environment who died of lung cancer . Let smokers smoke outdoors ....up on upper decks away from others I loved that Celebrity no longer allows smoking indoors ..I wish NCL would do the same Some of the casinos have pooor ventilation and really reek Please ban smoking indoors
candigirl41 Posted September 6, 2017 #628 Share Posted September 6, 2017 I did not read all 32 pages so forgive me if this has been mentioned. The Carnival Paradise came out as completely non smoking. If people were caught they were put off at the next port no refunds. A lot of people liked it, but they were continually having to discount the cabins as people weren't booking. The casino and bar revenues were down as well. If any cruise line was to do this again I think they would find the same situation. I wish as they make new ships they could divide the Casino into two areas one smoking one non smoking, with the smoking area closed up and ventilated well. I cruise with someone who smokes so if it weren't allowed we would not be able to go. Candi

It abolished that philosophy in 2003. A lot has changed in 14 years. There are many who never felt cruise lines would disallow smoking in cabins or balconies. 15% of adult Americans smoke according to the CDC as posted on NBC News Health news online. So, 85% do not. It has dropped 2% in one year. The average drop is usually 1% per year. So, maybe in my lifetime the number will decrease far enough that cruise lines will cater to the majority. In 2015 I was pleasantly surprised that the casino on the Jewel was not smoky at all. But this past March on the Epic it was unbearably smoky. So, I did other things... had a second massage for instance. I went home with my large casino budget pretty much untapped. Two Wheels Only Posted September 6, 2017 #631 Share Posted September 6, 2017 I cruise with someone who smokes so if it weren't allowed we would not be able to go. Yes, you would be able to go. Yes, the smoker would be able to go. Believe it or not, it is possible for a smoker to go a day without smoking. The smoker would not drop dead from lack of cigarettes. When the ship pulls into port, the smoker can hop off, find an area where smoking is allowed and smoke for hours. Upon returning to the ship, no more smoking. Then, wait for the next port and do the same.

It's more accurate to state that "they would choose to not go". Smoking is a choice whether the smoker believes it to be or not. If (theoretically) NCL went non-smoking fleet-wide, people would make a choice. Some smokers would choose a different line, some smokers would adjust. Everyone would still be able to cruise NCL. I just wanted to make the point that neither the smoking policy nor the cigarette controls what a person does. The power of choice is with the individual. jennycap220 Posted September 6, 2017 #635 Share Posted September 6, 2017 i wonder if ncl ever looked into having specific cruises be 100% non-smoking? If they did: 1. Would you book one? 2. Would you be willing to pay a premium to book a cruise that was 100% smoke-free? yes no!

I totally disagree. It's not lack of empathy for a different lifestyle. Smoking is a health hazard---not a lifestyle--and endangers everyone around that smoker. As a retired RN, I've seen the results of years of smoking and exposure to second hand smoke first hand. I've seen lives end when they should have had years ahead to enjoy. No, it's not a lifestyle. It is a true health hazard and should be banned on the cruise ships, as it has already been done in restaurants and in all public areas. In many places smoking isn't even allowed in their parking lots around schools and hospitals. So why should we have to tolerate someone exposing us on cruise ships? Now, I am a true cruise addict and have no intention of ever giving up cruising, but I will celebrate the day I can walk freely through a cruise ship casino or everywhere out on the pool deck without being assaulted by cigarette smoke. And in this day of increased awareness of health hazards, I would guess the majority of cruisers would feel the same.

Azure Moon Posted September 6, 2017 #642 Share Posted September 6, 2017 1. Yes, depending on itinerary and ship 2. No! I drink more now than when I smoked. I gamble more now than when I smoked. I want to gamble longer than I am able to due to smoky casinos (on sea and on land) and do it in a comfortable facility (smoke-free).

I accept that casino smoking is an issue - I personally do not have a problem with non-smoking casinos - I think it is a good idea. If you hadn't guessed, I am a smoker and I like the casino. I have no problem with adjourning to the cigar room/outside smoking area when I want a smoke. It saves me a few quid when I'm not in the casino after all. It's not really hard it's impossible on the Carnival ship that I've been on lately they put a casino is the main hall to access the dining room and outside they have smoking areas that you just walk around a corner to get a face for smoking never even see it coming. I'm with you on the cigars and honestly if they had really good smoking areas in the casinos and then areas of casinos it were smoking that would be cool but I've never seen that at least want to hit a wall Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Two Wheels Only Posted September 6, 2017 #645 Share Posted September 6, 2017 So avoid the smoking areas - it ain't hard. The problem is that smoke leaves the smoking areas and travels to the non-smoking areas. It's a design/engineering problem with many ships. If smoking and smoke was contained to the smoking areas and non-smokers still complained, I'd side with the smokers...even though their choice to smoke is deadly. Without proper ventilation/filtration, I'd feel badly for the employees, though.

AndyCapn Posted September 6, 2017 #647 Share Posted September 6, 2017 There are singles cruises, couples cruises, music cruises, tv show cruises, sports team cruises, LGBT cruises, all sorts of niche-market cruises. Which all leads to one fact: If there was a market for a non-smoking cruise, goodness knows there are enough cruise lines out there that would have targeted that market segment. It is a majority. Most people do not smoke. Eighty five percent is listed on the CDC website. And oh, I would guess the percentage for non-adults is even higher.
