Greenhouse Spa day pass

Spa amenities vary by ship. ... The spa on every ship (not sure about Princendam) ....

The Prinsendam doesn't have any of the facilities of the thermal suite. I can't imagine any place to install one, either.

In lieu of the day pass that 5-star Mariners are entitled to, they get one extra dinner in the Pinnacle on the Prinsendam.

Oh, I agree with you about not bothering to purchase a pass to the thermal suite on any ship that doesn't have the therapy pool. Those glorified hot tubs just don't cut it for me.

Am I seriously reading this correctly? We have booked a spa ocean view cabin on Maasdam for next month, and it does not come with spa passes??? That's the main reason we booked that cabin! We had a spa cabin on Carnival Dream and it came with two spa passes. I had planned to use my OBC for massages, not passes.

Take a tour of the spa before you buy your pass. Maasdam is one of the ships that doesn't have the hydropool. Also ask if buying a massage gives you time in the spa on that day. I know some ships do offer that, but I can't recall if it's HAL or a different line that has this policy.

"The 56 spa staterooms are so named because of their proximity to the Greenhouse Spa and Salon and special in-room spa amenities."

I believe that one of the amenities is a yoga mat. IIRC, when the spa cabins were added to one of the ships (Veendam, maybe), someone complained that there was too little floor space to unroll the mat.

Thanks for the clarification. I had a feeling she's too small to have a thermal suite. So now what do I spend my OBC on when I sail on her soon? I can only drink so much...

Jewelry? They showed a stunning emerald and diamond bracelet one time that I would have given my eye teeth for. A mere $95,000.

That should use up any OBC anyone has.

Nice, but I don't have that much OBC!

It always seems that I have more OBC on cruises where I have prepaid grats and don't want a lot of ship's tours. Then on longer tours, where I want to book the spa and take some tours, I have less OBC. Murphy's law, I guess.

I know.....really really rethinking booking this trip. Plus smoking in casino another issue. Not a plus at all.

  • 5 years later...

When I saw my upcoming Spa Pass online listed on my itinerary, it had a notation "Duration 15 minutes".   Much like shore excursions include a "duration" time period - but three houses, four hours, etc.

Was that intended to be a warning to not immerse oneself in  the hot spas for more than 15 minutes? Because certainly one can spend more than 15 minutes in the various other Spa amenities.

We witnessed a very serious medical incident in one of the outdoor hot tubs on the Konigsdam over the holidays. People around us were saying they probably were in more than 15 minutes - easy to lose track when at sea.  It may have even been a fatality.

So I wonder if HAL legal is now adding this "15 minute Duration" notation to the Spa Passes. Shall ask when on board.

I think they've always asked you to limit time on the heated loungers to 15 minutes in order to give everyone a chance to use them. Last winter on Eurodam, I felt like Goldilocks--one of the loungers was too hot, another wasn't warm enough, one was even out of order! I did find one that was just right and probably spend about 15 minutes in it. I haven't used the outdoor hot tubs, but from hotel experience, I find them too hot. I love the gentle warmth of the pool in the spa--I don't want to boil, just soak.

Another factor in the medical incident could have been alcohol. I'm not saying the person was drunk, but alcohol does impair the body's ability to regulate temperature.
