GROUCHPUSS Posted March 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2017 What's up with Carnival? Another ship can't meet max speed. Now the Paradise can't meet max speed, and effecting Most sailing through June.

SadieN Posted March 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Azipods seem to have more issues than regular propellers.

Carleeb12 Posted March 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Has this ever happened on any other cruise line? Or does it seem to be unique to Carnival ships?
CanWeGoYet? Posted March 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Celebrity & NCL have had problems with their azipod equipped ships.
GROUCHPUSS Posted March 3, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Azipods seem to have more issues than regular propellers. Splendor does not have azipods, Paradise does. I also don't think Liberty has them.
christa623 Posted March 3, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2017 (edited) I am disappointed too. I got the email last night saying that it was changed from Mahogany Bay to Costa Maya on the Paradise. Was really looking forward to Mahogany Bay and this is my wedding cruise :( This is actually the second time that they've changed it. When we first booked it went to Cozumel and Grand Cayman. Then they changed to Mahogany Bay and Cozumel. Now it's Cozumel and Costa Maya. Edited March 3, 2017 by christa623
Tropical PJ Posted March 3, 2017 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Costa Maya has Maya Chan...look it up on Trip Advisor.....I booked with them and nothing but professional outstanding service. Our day there was not the greatest weather wise but it still turned out amazing thanks to them. From the minute they piked us up at the ship till they welcomed us at the beach. We were brought to our reserved loungers and served by OUTSTANDING staff. I thought I had died and gone to heaven that is how they treat you like royalty....home made tortilla chips and homemade guacamole and salsa....you could kayak and paddle board or float in their float chairs. The lunch was fantastic made right then and there.
Winterstale Posted March 3, 2017 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Yes, I was really disappointed since I booked our Paradise sailing specifically for the Roatan stop😟
Micahs Grandad Posted March 3, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Seems like more ships having propulsion problems than ever before. Wonder why that should be.

christa623 Posted March 3, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 3, 2017 What is the cost of Maya Chan - just sent them a reservation request It says $60 per person. Cheaper for kids. I am thinking of doing this too.
NCTribeFan Posted March 3, 2017 #14 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Has this ever happened on any other cruise line? Or does it seem to be unique to Carnival ships? Easy enough to find out with a simple Google search. Of course other ships sailing for other lines have propulsion problems.
Davey Wavey Posted March 3, 2017 #15 Share Posted March 3, 2017 If itinerary is really important, buy cruise insurance. It won't stop the change from happening, but the $1500 payout for "inconvenience" makes it hurt less.
Port of Tampa Posted March 3, 2017 #16 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Never been to Costa Maya so not too bummed but what will I do with the $25 per person...more money for the casino I guess. Cheers and happy cruising.

You see more of the problems they have because they have the most ships at sea and ship happens. Other lines have problems been on RCL 2 times with motor problems. Just live and enjoy

Just live and enjoy All lines will have mechanical problems but CCL has had close to the same number of ships they have today for some time but seems like the number of ships with issues has skyrocketed. Have only added one ship to their fleet in about 5 years since Breeze came out.
InitialD Posted March 3, 2017 #19 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Seems like more ships having propulsion problems than ever before. Wonder why that should be. Carnival has won several multi-million dollar lawsuits from the manufacturers of the Azipod propulsion systems for things such as faulty bearings. JaniceB Posted March 3, 2017 #20 Share Posted March 3, 2017 Interesting about the lawsuits. If you don't like the itinerary are they giving you a refund? You could then book another ship.
almitra Posted March 3, 2017 #21 Share Posted March 3, 2017 I've noticed this inability to achieve max speed on multiple CCL ships too. It's cut our time in ports short, but thankfully, we've never had them switch out a closer port...that would stink.

There is absolutely nothing to do in costa maya [emoji36] I agree ... wish they would go to a private island instead ... although I don't think there are any in that area ???
