Norwegian Breakaway Questions

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! We are sailing out on the Breakaway on March 26th and I have a couple of questions:

1. How much does the cruise line authorize on your credit card when using it to check in?

2. Do they sell Spa Day Passes? If so, how much are they roughly?

3. I have already booked some dinner reservations on NCL.com but, are you supposed to be able to reserve the comedy shows?

On our last cruise they put a $300 hold on our card and then added more as I spent more.

I'm not sure about the Spa Passes, but I can look back at the dailies and see if it is listed in there.

As far as I remember, the comedy shows were not able to be booked online. Maybe once onboard, but I honestly don't know. We are booked again for December and it's still too early to book anything. It's 100 days before sailing for suites, and 90 days for everyone else.

Hope I helped a bit.

Hi everyone! We are sailing out on the Breakaway on March 26th and I have a couple of questions:

1. How much does the cruise line authorize on your credit card when using it to check in?

Roughly $300. They will continue to make additional authorizations during the cruise to cover the balance on your onboard account. At the end of the cruise, they will post a charge for the outstanding balance on your room account. What this means is that over two times your final room bill will be sent through as authorizations. The length of time that the authorization remains on your account is determined by your bank (assume 30 days) not NCL.

2. Do they sell Spa Day Passes? If so, how much are they roughly?

Day passes are sold at the discretion of the Mandara Spa. Normally, they are not sold if the weekly passes sell out. Normally, they are never sold on sea days (regardless if the weekly passes are sold out). Only sold on slow port days. On two of our more recent cruises late last year, day passes were not sold at all.

3. I have already booked some dinner reservations on NCL.com but, are you supposed to be able to reserve the comedy shows?

You can book one comedy show once you are on board. Use any of the touch screen kiosks in the public areas to book shows, excursions, or dinner reservations. Early shows are family oriented. Late shows are 18+.

I am confused about the $300 hold on your credit card. If you paid your balance for the cruise in full........why are they putting a hold on your card when you check in? Is that to just insure that there is money to satisfy your balance at the end of your cruise if you had any expenses? I don't remember this on our last cruise, but maybe that's because our bill went over that amount. Hmm

If you are sure you want a spa thermal pass buy it online ahead of the cruise.

That way you don't have to worry about them selling out and you will save a little bit of money. Usually at least $20 dollars cheaper.

On the breakaway last week they were being sold on board for $237/week, online I believe the price was $199.

Yes, the hold is to insure that you can pay for your on board account balance at the end of the cruise. Hotels and car rental companies do the same thing...put a hold on your account in anticipation of the amount you'll owe at the end of your hotel stay or car rental.

You'll never notice the hold unless you check your account at your credit card's website after you check in...assuming the credit card company is one of those that displays holds (or temporary authorizations) on their site. The hold is normally removed immediately after the final bill is charged to your credit card at the end of your cruise.

Passes for individual days are not sold on line, only full cruise passes are sold that way. You can only buy day passes while on the ship, and even then normally only for port days.

Misread the original post .... Skipped over the word "day", need to get new glasses [emoji851].

Thanks for the clarification
