Haven 5 free offers

Needed to get some clarity around the Haven's 5 free offers. Haven't cruised with NCL since 2011 so things have changed significantly.

1. On the free unlimited open bar I saw some info on here that said it did not include bottled water. Is this true? If so, do they have restrictions on bringing bottled water on board with you? Does NCL offer flavored bottled waters on board?

2. Are there restrictions on the free specialty dining? I know that some restaurants are a la carte now. Are those included in the free dining or is it only the restaurants that have a set cover charge? Are any of those dinner shows included?

3. How does the free shore excursion credit work?

4. Does the free wifi work in cabins or only in public areas?

And a few general questions about the Haven:

1. For the in-room dining can you order only from the main dining room menu? Are the specialty restaurants or the Haven Restaurant options at all?

2. Any feedback on the Aft-Facing Penthouses? These suites look very nice but are not inside the Haven. Anyone stayed in them and found the distance from the Haven annoying? Or did the cabin size and nice balcony make up for it? Have stayed in Aft Corner Sky Suites on Celebrity and love those.

3. How is it finding a lounge chair in the areas near the Haven pool or on the private sundeck on a sea day? Is it just as crowded as the main pool area?

It does not include bottled water, nor can you bring them onboard. They are available to purchase in advance for a discount. I can not recall any flavored bottles of water onboard.

2. Are there restrictions on the free specialty dining? I know that some restaurants are a la carte now. Are those included in the free dining or is it only the restaurants that have a set cover charge? Are any of those dinner shows included?

There are some restrictions to where and how you can use it. See the link above for all the details.

3. How does the free shore excursion credit work?

You get $50 to use towards excursions at every port, except the return port. It's a use it or lose it scenario.

4. Does the free wifi work in cabins or only in public areas?

The wifi reaches the cabins on most ships, especially the newer ones.

And a few general questions about the Haven:

1. For the in-room dining can you order only from the main dining room menu? Are the specialty restaurants or the Haven Restaurant options at all?

I believe you can order from the main and Haven menus for in-room dining. I never asked for in-room dining, so I'm not totally sure.

I never had an aft penthouse, but those who have always loved them. I guess the trade off of the distance between the Haven area and the penthouses is getting a little exercise in!

3. How is it finding a lounge chair in the areas near the Haven pool or on the private sundeck on a sea day? Is it just as crowded as the main pool area?

I'm not really a avid lounger, but I never seen the deck crowded....10 people at best.

1.. not sure if includes water

2.. no restrictions on specialty dining that I know of. Yes the diner shows are included.

3.. you get $50 credit for

Every port you go to.

4.. the free wifi works all over the ship.

You can order from any restaurant you want for room service at no charge. Specially restaurants too. We had the aft facing penthouse and lived them. The balcony is amazing. Didn't mind the distance to the haven area.

Never had a problem getting a lounge chair either at pool area or up on haven sun deck. Never really got crowded even on sea days.

If your on one of the newer ships you will also have the haven restaurant which is great.

Any restaurant that is open on the ship. That goes for any meal incl. breakfast. You can even combine from different restaurants. There is no room service fee but you would use a SDP credit for a specialty restaurant meal. Haven meals are complimentary.

The H6 beats most of the Haven suites for the balcony size and room. The walk isn't a problem (for us, anyway).

3. How is it finding a lounge chair in the areas near the Haven pool or on the private sundeck on a sea day? Is it just as crowded as the main pool area?

Never, ever a problem finding a chair in any part of the Haven.

We always bring a case of bottled water with us. It has never been a problem. Ask them to empty the mini fridge and you can fill it up.

Can I bring water or pop on board?

Effectivefor sailings July 15, 2016 and beyond, guests are prohibited from bringing anybeverages -- including liquor, beer and non-alcoholic drinks such as water, popand juices -- on board either as carry-on or checked luggage, with theexception of purified or distilled water in factory-sealed containers for usein conjunction with medical devices or for the reconstitution of infantformula; and fully sealed and/or corked wine bottles for personal consumptiononboard that is subject to screening and a corkage fee (for guests 21 years ofage or older). Open beverages of any kind must be consumed or discarded at thesecurity check-point, on embarkation day and at any port of call. This revisedpolicy brings the company in line with other best practice travel securityprotocols and reduces the need for individual time consuming screening andpackage inspection of large volumes of beverages.

Why the change in policy?

The inspection of large volumes of beverages has an impact on the embarkationprocess and security resources. As one example, guests who attempt to smugglealcoholic beverages onboard often try to do so in beverage containers. Thismeans all beverages must be personally screened, taking both time and dedicatedpersonnel.

This modified policy will now bring us in line with other travel industryprocedures for transporting beverages and allow security personnel to focus onother screening efforts and not individually inspecting all beverages beingbrought onboard.

What if I purchase a beverage in a portof call?

Guests will not be permitted to bring any beverages onboard the ship in portsof call and any locally-purchased beverages will be disposed of prior toembarkation. No open containers of beverages, including water, will be allowedonboard during a port of call.

If you purchase any alcohol at one of our ports-of-call or in our onboardshops, we will safely store your purchase and either on the final night of thecruise or the morning of debarkation it will be available for pick up in adesignated area.

What happens if I bring a case of waterto the ship?

Guests who bring beverages to embarkation will be directed to return the itemsto their vehicle. If the guest does not have a vehicle onsite, the items willbe disposed of.

If I need to bring water or milkonboard for a medical reason or infant, what’s the process?

Guests who have special needs, medical requirements, or families with infantswho require water for formula or milk, should contact the access desk at accessdesk@ncl.comto verify if an exception can be made for their beverage and to obtainpre-approval to provide to security at embarkation.

Bottled water is not included with the UBP. It is included with a casino drinks charge. You may not bring any beverage or any kind on the ship at any port. Flavored waters are available for lunch and dinner in the buffet.

In a regular Havens room, you will get one bottle of water on embarkation. If you are in an Owner's Suite, you get unlimited bottled water. We have our mini-fridge emptied and ask our butler to keep a pitcher of ice water in the fridge.

2. Are there restrictions on the free specialty dining? I know that some restaurants are a la carte now. Are those included in the free dining or is it only the restaurants that have a set cover charge? Are any of those dinner shows included? Almost all specialty restaurants and entertainment-based dining are included (some with an upcharge).

Specialty dining packages are honored in Cagney's Steakhouse, Moderno Churrascaria, Teppanyaki and our French, Mexican and Italian restaurants across the fleet. Guests who have purchased the package may also choose to dine in other select à la carte priced restaurants, entertainment-based restaurants, Bayamo, Pincho Tapas Bar, and Ocean Blue restaurants, for the following per person upcharges:

  • The Supper Club - $15USD
  • Ocean Blue - $15USD
  • Bayamo - $15USD
  • Cirque Dreams/Illusionarium - $10USDregular seats/$15USDpremium seats/$35USDVIP seating on Breakaway
  • Sushi -$7USD
  • Raw Bar - $7USD(does not include Seafood Plateau. If ordered, the upcharge is to be waived)
  • Pincho Tapas Bar - $7USD

3. How does the free shore excursion credit work?

You call a special number to pre-book your shore excursions. Once onboard, the shore excursions are charged to your onboard account. Once you take the shore excursions, your onboard account is credited $50 per port (up to 4 ports), excluding the disembarkation port.

4. Does the free wifi work in cabins or only in public areas?

Wifi works in all parts of the ship. You will always run into dead spots, but it should work in all public areas and your room. You also get a voip handiphone that works ship wide.

And a few general questions about the Haven:

1. For the in-room dining can you order only from the main dining room menu? Are the specialty restaurants or the Haven Restaurant options at all?

You can order from any food establishment on the ship. If you order from specialty restaurants, you are charged like you dined in the restaurant. There will be breakfast cards in your room with check-boxes. Ignore the check boxes and order anything you want from the Havens restaurant. For example, eggs over easy, omelets, filet steak, bacon, ham, sausage, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, breakfast potatoes, hash browns, breads, fresh fruits, juices, and a diet pepsi

Aft and forward penthouses outside the Havens enclave are fine. A lot more space for a smaller cost. Always the best deal!

3. How is it finding a lounge chair in the areas near the Haven pool or on the private sundeck on a sea day? Is it just as crowded as the main pool area?

Crowded.

Enjoy your cruise!
