Can we send our PVP a "gift"

I booked my cruise by calling the extension of the PVP I used last time we sailed Carnival (summer 2015). He apparently doesn't work for Carnival any longer because each time I called, I got someone different.

Afterwards, I got a recommendation for a PVP and called her directly. She has been so great to work with. She has already changed the method of payment from the credit card that was used when I originally booked to gift cards that I purchased at 10% off as well as put through a $200 per cabin price drop that happened for our 3 cabins.

Anyway, I was thinking of getting a gift card from gyft.com or something similar to send to her because I don't think she gets any credit for our cruise since she didn't originally book it.

Is that ok to do? I was thinking I could just email it to her??

Guess you could do it but you do realize that after she books a certain number of cabins monthly she does get commission.

Yes, but I was afraid that since she wasn't the one who booked ours, she wouldn't get anything for it. She's just helping me after the fact.

I sent mine an e-gift card last month. I asked if it was ok to send something personal to his Carnival email and he said no problem. He goes above and beyond and puts up with my silly questions, changing cabins, and $20 price drops. :D

Thank you, I think I'll go ahead and do it then. I just was afraid it was against their policy or something. I definitely don't want to get anyone in trouble.

You do realize she's just "doing her job". They also do the service work on existing bookings, even if they didn't book the reservation initially.

Can you share her name or contact info? We booked ourselves but would love someone to check in with if we see the price drops or something

We can't share names on here, unfortunately, as I have an excellent PVP that I would love to have you call. You will have to reach out to friends or family for a recommendation or get in touch with someone via a different method.

I'm sure that's true. I didn't realize that they do work on other bookings though. I just really appreciate the ability to call in and talk to the same person each time. They agent that I booked through, really didn't know some of the things she should have known. For example, I had $1,500 of gift cards to put down as my deposit (that I'd bought at a 10% discount). She said they couldn't be used as a down payment (which I knew they could), but I figured she just didn't want to mess with it. It was late and I figured I'd just call in the next day and get it straightened out. That's when I searched for a PVP.

The lady that booked me also tried to tell me that the interior cabins on the Lido deck that we were looking at didn't need to be in the same hall. She told me that if we got 2 in one hall and one in the other, that they would open up next to each other. I also knew that wasn't true and insisted on being in the same hall. It was overall just a strange booking conversation.

The only reason I wanted to get it booked that night was because I was booking under early saver and I figured it would be close to the time that early saver rates would be pulled. As of now, they are still there, so I would have been fine, I just wasn't sure at the time.

As someone else already mentioned, we can't post them here. There are a few groups on social media sites that people discuss them. That's where I picked mine from.

But they get paid on the bookings they make. I wouldn't feel right asking someone to work on my reservation "for free". While they may be doing their job and most wouldn't grumble about it, it is still a commissioned position. I only book with my PVP and will only have them service it after. It's not fair to let someone else get the credit and expect a PVP to handle any issues that come up.

This might be a silly question, but what's a PVP?

Personal Vacation Planner. They work at Carnival and are your go-to person. It is so nice to have one person there who knows what they are doing. Some people don't think they need one until something unexpected happens and they need something changed or have questions. To which my reply is usually "Call your PVP and they can fix it". Then they say they don't have one. So instead, they can spend a lot of time on the phone, repeating their story to the person who answers the phone, then a supervisor, and maybe another one or heaven forbid you get a person that doesn't know what they're doing.

It saves a whole lot of frustration. Sure I can book online by myself (although with this new website, maybe not), but why? I have one guy that knows my voice when I call and he makes sure everything is good to go. Any glitches and he takes care of it. He's been there since 1992, knows the ins and outs of Carnival, and actually cruises on the ships he books. There is no reason IMHO not to use one. I wouldn't trade him for OBC, a bottle of wine, prepaid gratuities, or a dinner in a specialty restaurant.

Sadly, our PVP just up and disappeared one day....no indication he was retiring or quitting. Just no "T the PVP" anymore. So disappointing because he knew us, our preferences, didn't call too frequently, always checked in just prior to and right after we arrived home post-sailing, and kept up with price drops, too. He was a gem.

This new gal I've spoken to - she calls incessantly and I wouldn't book with her ever. I wish our old guy had given us a recommendation before he moved on (to retirement on a cruise ship, I hope!).

ski_mom, are you sure you were talking to a PVP? Could it possible been a CSR, you know the person that answers the 1-800 #? Seems like she/he was painfully without a clue about Carnival policy. It is sad that Carnival has someone providing services that is so uninformed.

It was probably a CSR. I was calling the extension of the last PVP that we used. He must have moved on because the 2 times I called the number, a different person answered.

We love our Pvp, she has been our go to lady since 2011. She has become like family, mu hubby had to go thru chemo last year and she called just to check up on him to see hoe he was. She will call every few months just to see how we are and if there is a good deal out of certain ports she will call and already have a curtesy hold on a room cause she knows what floor we like and what rooms we book. I would be so lost without her!

We had always booked through a travel agent. She quit so I sent an e-mail to Carnival requesting a PVP who had been with the company at least ten years, has sailed on their ships and knew what they were talking about.

The following day I got an e-mail from one telling me he has been with the company for twelve years, has sailed on most of their ships and would like to hear from me.

I wrote back and told him what we were looking for. He immediately wrote back and ask me to call him as the only way they can book a cruise is over the phone, not by e-mails.

I called and we had quite a conversation. I wanted to book a balcony cabin on the Panorama Deck and my brother/SIL would be booking a cabin next to ours. We wanted to be able to open the balcony divider. He wanted to know brother/SIL's name. He booked ours and told me to have SIL call within 24 hours to book theirs.

I called SIL and told her. She called and he had everything ready for her. All she had to do was give him her CC number for the down payment.

I told him that we only cruise every other year and not to call us, that we would call him. Shortly after one year has passed, he will call and ask if we are ready to book again. He does send e-mails quite regularly with "deals". Now when we do want to book a cruise, I call him, tell him what we want, then he sets it up and asks if brother/SIL are going too. Then he finds two cabins with connecting balconies and holds one for them.

Just send them an e-mail through the "Contact Us" and ask for what I ask for. It sure worked for us.

I just wanted to say that this was really sweet! To people saying they are just doing their job, yes they are, but I think if someone goes above and beyond they should get recognition.

I called the general 1800 number when booking so that I could give a PVP some commission. My guy was pretty sucky (my DH had a casino rate, but I had to ask if it could be combined with early saver. He should have already offered that! What if I wasn't on CC and didn't know the benefits of price drops up until sailing...). When I asked if I get his extension for price drops etc. he said I could call the general 1800 number again. It wasn't like I was mean so I can only conclude he was being lazy.

The other PVPs when I've called 2x since were great. Wish I got one of them when I booked!

If you are calling the 1-800 number you are not getting a PVP, you are getting a CSR. PVPs can only be reached by extension. There is a huge difference.

What is it about cruises that people want to give tips and gifts to everyone involved? They are hired by Carnival, to do a job at selling cabins. That is why they call you. To sell, sell, sell. Part of the job is maintenance of existing customers. It is what they get paid for. They sit at a desk, in a call center, with headphones, and answer the phone, and have a call list to make the sale when not on the phone. It's a job.

Employees of most companies are not allowed to accept gifts (or bribes) from customers. Anything I receive, I must report. (and return).

If you want to do something, send a nice letter to the company, explaining how much the person helps you, and is an asset to their organization. Anything else, should not be done.

Yes, I know there is a difference between a CSR and a PVP, however, I thought once you booked through a CSR they became your PVP.

When I booked back in 2011, I remember calling the general number, and the person who answered became my PVP, they gave their extension etc. (I probably should have searched my emails and found their info. but I had a deal and wanted to jump on it. My PVP would email me personally from time to time as well, but I didn't cruise again until 2 years later as I do land vacations much more than cruising. My other cruises were booked online.).

When I called the other 2x after I booked this cruise, the CSRs who answered stated that the original person who booked should have given their extension (and essentially become my PVP) and actually apologized for their co-worker.

Is there another system or phone number I should have used? If there is a direct number I should call to obtain a PVP? If so, I will utilize this number in the future as we will probably cruise more often now that the kids are older and we are starting to bring them with us on international vacations.

A CSR does not become a PVP. They are 2 different titles. If you want a recommendation, then you will have to ask someone outside of here for one. Wish we could give out names but we can't. Or you can call Carnival and see who is assigned to you.
