The Other Tom Posted March 30, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Our ship is docking in Cannes from 8AM to 6PM on a Friday. Can we walk to the beach or downtown area ? Anything special we should do ? We don't want to take a ships tour...would rather do something on our own.
waney Posted March 30, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Cannes has plenty of shops, many posh ones. Theres also a casino, the theater where they have the red carpet for the film festival and nice beaches (some private), its very stylish. There is a castle or fort (not a famous one to my knowledge) where you can walk up to get a view. Its also quite easy to get a train into Nice or Antibes. All doable in one day. MeHeartCruising Posted March 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2017 I believe most ports tender in Cannes. But from the tender boat location, you can easily walk to many of the popular things to see and do in Cannes. It's a nice little town to just explore on your own if so inclined. There are also beaches within walking distance. After many tour-intensive ports, we used Cannes as our relax and unwind day.
LisabethB Posted April 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2017 How can you get to Nice airport from Canne. Our cruise ends here but having difficulty finding how to get to airport. Our TA was quoted £156 for the taxi didn't think it ways that far. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare marazul Posted April 1, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 1, 2017 How can you get to Nice airport from Canne. Our cruise ends here but having difficulty finding how to get to airport. Our TA was quoted £156 for the taxi didn't think it ways that far. You can take the train from Cannes to Nice-St Augustin (the airport stop). It is a little over half an hour and about 6 euros. No need to book. These are frequent commuter trains. You will have to walk to the airport, but it is not a long walk. You also have to take a taxi to the Cannes station. Or check friend-in-france for transfers. It is 80 euros. We have used them a number of times and could not be more reliable. https://www.friend-in-france.com/airport-transfers-1/PRIVATE-TRANSFERS-CAR-1-4-passengers-c18923014
Rare Hlitner Posted April 1, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 1, 2017 ALL ships must tender into Cannes as there is no cruise ship pier. As to beaches, there is a pretty decent public (free) sandy beach located a short walk from the tender pier. Simply walk through the parking lot, keeping the sea on your left. You will quickly come to a beach called Plage du Midi. There is also the more famous beach (Playa de la Croisette) which lines the heart of town across the street from some famous (and very expensive) hotels such as the Carlton. As far as beaches go, the one closer to the cruise port (Plage du Midi) is actually a better beach. But the Croisette is where you might stumble on somebody famous....but this beach has some pretty pricey beach clubs (chair rentals). We have been to Cannes more than a dozen times (often on multi-night stays) and have never seen anyone "famous" except (of course) DW. Rare ollienbertsmum Posted April 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted April 13, 2017 We have managed to do Cannes and Antibes on the same day - not rushing at all. We walked to the bus/train station got a bus to Antibes and then the train back. We actually made the mistake of not checking the train time and we had to wait ages for the next train - even so we had time in Cannes to wander around the shops and stroll along La Croisette. It was a relaxing day and I can't wait to do something similar in October.
Rare 4cats4me Posted April 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted April 16, 2017 We took a private tour arranged from home, so nice tours. There were four of us, supposed to be eight but four people couldn't disembark due to tendering issues. Anyway, we went to Nice, St Paul de Vence and drive back through Antibes, arriving at the tender station around 4:00, which left plenty of time before sailaway. We loved shopping at the flea market in Nice [emoji2] bought many nice soaps, lavender, macarons. St Paul was fabulous Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
