diamondj Posted April 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2017 Perhaps this should be on Venice forum, so apologies if so. Has anyone been onboard their cruise ship in port around the time of the Regata Storica boat parade in Venice (1st Sunday in September). Just curious as to whether we would be able to see any of it from the top deck, as it starts at 4pm and we sail at 5pm, so no time to see any of it on land. Is the cruise terminal too far from Grand Canal to be able to see it? Thanks to the 2 people who replied to my query about closure of GC on that day. It looks like we will be able to use the Aliguna boat line to get from San Zaccaria to ship, which skirts round the GC.
jocap Posted April 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2017 We were once in Venice when they were having the festival where they drop a ring into the canal- no, we wouldn't have been able to see any of that from the terminal, and it was mainly over by the time we sailed. You only sail past the end of the Grand Canal, although some of the boats will have spilled out of it. Your ship will go very slowly past the buildings, and the pilot/tugs/port authorities will be monitoring your distance from other vessels, I'm sure.
