aussievc Posted April 5, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 5, 2017 I'm looking at cabins on deck 9 above the life boats which are on deck 8. Would there be any issues with cabins above life boats? Do the life boats stick out or they tucked in? Basically would we be looking down to water or the top of life boats?
drvalo Posted April 5, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 5, 2017 My first cruise was on the Star on Deck 9 in a mid ship balcony. We looked straight down to the water. They were tucked in. I don't think that has changed since then.
don't-use-real-name Posted April 5, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 5, 2017 On the NCL STAR (and its sister ship the DAWN) the life boats are tucked in under your deck 9. When walking the Promenade deck 7 you can see the life boats hanging from their davits causing the obstructed viewing cabins on deck 8. From your balcony cabin on deck 9 looking straight down you may see a very small portion of the external walkway on the life boats but nothing bothersome for photo taking. The ONLY problem that you will have with the life boats is when they are used for tendering and during routine maintenance when the life boats are hoisted out over the water and then lowered. "The Squeaky Wheel sometimes needs some lubrication (grease)" ! The noise can be troublesome but it is a daytime exercise and not something sleep depriving. I looked up some pics and I see that they are tucked in. I'm not sure which ports, if any, will be tender. We are going to Dubrovnik, Kotor, Athens, Santorini, and Naples. You will certainly tender in Santorini, and maybe Kotor. In Dubrovnik, Athens and Naples you will dock.

I know there is only room for one ship to dock, and there is some size limit to those that can dock. Maybe both the Spirit and Star are above that limit. We are due there in a couple of weeks on the Spirit, and I believe that we are the only ship in port that day, so we will see then whether it can dock. If the Spirit can't then the Star won't either.
