ballarinamom Posted May 17, 2017 #26 Share Posted May 17, 2017 Question for those that have seen the cabaret shows - are they appropriate for a 12 year old? Our son will be with us - and the ship excursions to the cabaret's say 13 or older - but are they really that risque??TIA I was told that the Tropicana and others have an 18 and older age requirement but the cruise line has an agreement for 13 and older. It's not for content but alcohol service

It's not for content but alcohol service That may well be so. However, what is the point of spending a fortune to expose your underage child/teen to nude women prancing around the stage? There is nothing inherently Cuban (traditional Cuban culture) about the nudity in the show (like perhaps there is in the Carnival tradition in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). If anything, the show may be reminiscent of the worst, most exploitative era of the US mafia in Cuba, when they were running the casinos and the government. And there are plenty of other venues to see/hear colorful, traditional Cuban music and dancing, safely, more economically, and more authentically. 3onTour Posted June 10, 2017 #28 Share Posted June 10, 2017 :) Try the show at the hotel National also. just did it without food.. very Vegas type but less than other shows. I have heard of the Hotel National... is it a good show. I am trying to steer clear of the over saturated ship excursions i.e. Tropicana... can you tell me any more about this show. Have you attended one? Thanks!

Both the parisien and Tropicana shows can be seen in videos on YouTube, lots of them. The location for the show at the Hotel Nscional is not exactly in the hotel. It's off to the left of the main entrance. IMO they are both very Vegas touristy. There are lots of other places to hear real Cuban music.
Oville Posted June 11, 2017 #30 Share Posted June 11, 2017 For those who have been to the Tropicana and National what is the smoke like in these venues? I have asthma and cigarette or cigar smoke can cause issues. Thanks

epc3099 Posted June 12, 2017 Author #32 Share Posted June 12, 2017 Smoking is allowed. They actually give men a cigar when entering the venue. Smoke may be bothersome depending on where the breeze blows. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

I believe I read somewhere that the Nacional show is non smoking.

We hope to attend the Nacional show and it would be nice if it were non smoking. I doubt it but may be lucky.
