The price seems high They are the same prices as Bonsai Sushi. $7.50 for a full roll is less than I would pay in a restaurant or grocery store where I live. Too bad they dont have it avail on all ships. those that dont like veggies rolled in rice,, or are worried about the extra fee can line up at the burger grill... while I relax waiting for them to trigger the pager.. I just remember some of the prices on the Bonsai Sushi menu from before Carnival removed them from the menu posted on their site. The Bang Bang Bonsai roll was $7 before. Edible sushi requires a fishmonger that can supply sushi grade fresh, never frozen product, a creative chef that can adjust the flavors depending on what is available, and at least 20 to 30 types of nigiri and roll sushi. You don't need a lot of space to prepare good sushi. One of the world's best kitchens in Japan is located under a flight of stairs. I had sushi recently on Carnival Miracle that was tray passed by waiters for a Casino private party the first night of the cruise. It was only slightly above supermarket grade with all the flavor of a Tom Brady deflated football. To be fair I have relaxed on the dock and watched the suppliers truck in the food for a voyage in Long Beach. They are the same ones that supply the resort where I work. They are excellent for sourcing steaks and chops, soups and sauces in high volumes, but cannot supply small quantity, high quality ingredients needed for many Asian foods. Then there is the problem of taste. Most Americans do not take to the subtle flavors and nuances of quality sushi, so it has to be made to appeal to their palate. Thus we get California roll without seaweed or real crab. Last is the performance aspect of a real sushi experience. Interacting with the chef who makes the food in front of you is one of the delights of sushi compared with other Japanese foods that are prepared in an unseen kitchen. Being summoned by a pager is certainly efficient, it reduces the "show" to the same level as a Corn Dog Castle meal. I do appreciate the high quality of the MDR and Steak house food on the West Coast ships, I can even find delights in the deli and buffet offerings, and there is no such thing as bad pizza. I would not mind a quality sushi bar on Imagination or Inspiration and would not quibble about an up charge for the food. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yep. I agree. We eat sushi at least a couple of times a month and enjoy different varieties and flavors. Some of the rolls at Bonsai are unique to Carnival and a nice change of pace. They are good size rolls - at least 8 pieces each. We have really enjoyed Bonsai and glad to see them adding this to other ships - I like having a wide variety of both pay and non-pay venues. When I saw this thread, I was thinking that one of the four ships wouldn't be the Valor in which I will be on in six weeks. Pleasantly surprised to see the Valor is included.
