Equinox LIVE!! 5.5.17 Dragon of the Seas goes to the ABCs

Recommended Posts

Tonight is Evening Chic. At 8PM there is an "Evening Chic Officers Soiree" in the Grand Foyer on decks 3,4,5. . . music and dancing. We will check in for a few minutes, however we have late dinner seating. So we will miss most of it.

I want to check out the Silent disco in the Quasar night club. [9:30pm] They give you a headset and you pick the genre to dance. [3 channels] We will be late due to dinner-- so, we hope the nightclub is not full. It will be interesting to see which 3 genres they offer. :D

The top deck is deck 15--Solstice deck. This is the location of the Hot Glass blowing demo, the Sunset Bar [nice view of the wake of the ship] and the Lawn Club.

This deck is made of 2 non-connected sections. You need to use the center elevators or this stairs set:

The officers had a challenge against guests here this morning. You can see the glass blowing seating. This is a 2-hr Hot Glass Show.

While the grassy area is nice looking I feel it is an under used area on the ship.

The Oceanview Cafe is on Deck 14 and is the buffet. We have never had trouble finding seats. There is an outdoor seating area that is all the way to the back. It is mostly covered and very pleasant. That is where we had breakfast this morning.

WOW!! That is an eclectic mix. I will see if I can get any pictures. It should be interesting. there is a 50s and 60s dance tonight in the Sky lounge. DH is lobbying for that.

We booked this cruise when Celebrity abruptly cancelled the Mediterranean season for the Equinox. With an empty ship to fill they offered the Go Best package and great prices. [free grats, internet, premium drink package and onboard credit] with our balcony cabin.

May I ask how you got to find out about this amazing deal? Do you get emails from Celebrity direct with offers? Thank you

Yes--as a Captain's Club member they sent email to us. Also, someone on our cruise roll call mentioned it. It became a hot topic of discussion.

It was heavily advertised through the Celebrity website, email campaigns, travel agent websites etc. Was only available for a limited period last fall after they announced the deployment change. Rates were very good and perks excellent when first announced and some of the longer cruises booked fast and had steep price increases. Those that acted fast got a GREAT deal!

Our TA told us that Celebrity would be sailing the Caribbean. I checked their website and found the deal. This will be our first Celebrity cruise. We're Diamond on Royal and I had mentioned I'd like to try Celebrity. Just good timing that we found it and were able to take advantage of the this deal. We will be Celebrity "newbies" in June. Love seeing all the photos of the Equinox.

There was a lot of live music around the ship yesterday. I guess to keep us busy on the sea day. There was Dallas Bridge, a contemporary duo that played by the pool and the Ensemble Lounge. Dancing Town and Nu Image both played in the Grand Foyer on deck 3 and poolside at one time or another and in the Sky Lounge on deck 14.

Both groups are good.

Since last night was Evening Chic dinner had a slower rhythm than the night before. So it was almost 10:30 PM before we got to Quasar to try to get into the silent disco. It was packed. Plan to arrive early for this activity.

There were people with headphones dancing in the hallway. We decided we would watch for a couple of minutes and then we headed up to the Sky Lounge. [We hope they do this again later in the cruise]

The three music tracks were:

1. the live DJ,

2. Latin music,

3. Dancing through the Decades

I am having trouble getting my pictures to load. So, I will post them later.

You will love your Celebrity cruise and the Equinox in particular.

We sailed Celebrity many years ago on the Mercury from Baltimore. It was a very small ship. Then we took a Constellation cruise. But, that was 7 years ago.

So, when we took our Mardi Gras cruise from Feb to March of 2017 we really did not know what to expect. But, we remembered that Celebrity was a little classier than either Carnival or Royal Caribbean. . . . and it was. I like that they greet you when you board the ship with a flute of sparking wine. When you reboard the ship at a port stop they have juice, water and icy towels at the gangway.

I feel the food is very good. I had prime rib the first night for dinner and rack of lamb last night. DH enjoys the hand dipped ice cream bar they have each day in the lunch buffet.

As Diamond on RCL you will be Elite on Celebrity. The Elite cocktail hour is from 5-7 [not as long as on RCL]. There are several activities--a wine tasting, a back stage tour, an elegant tea, etc. I did not do either of these last time. But, I think I will do at least one this time. I will let you know what it is like.

Here are a few pics from the Silent Disco in Quasar on deck 4.

As you can see it was packed. The headphones had colors on the sides. I wondered if that said what track they were on. I will have to ask.

Edit: I just looked at the picture of the sign at the door and see each is listed in a different color. So--I guess you can tell who is dancing to what.

We have been to Grand Cayman several times. We love Seven-Mile beach and most passengers headed there today.

The last time we were here [in Feb] we stayed onboard and used one of the Elite perks. Elite Captain Club members can use the Persian Garden on one port day --while in port. We really like the relaxation.

We visited this morning before passengers returned from shore. [it can get busy]

You can see they suggest a time limit. However, there were plenty of empty loungers and I exceeded the limit--by a lot. ;p

IMG_20170507_125605_hdr_zpsqepmbmwn.jpg

They have a steam sauna . . .

P2220014_zpskh6e0hpd.jpg

. . . and an aromatic sauna.

P2220015_zpsm374jdhc.jpg

The big draw are the heated stone loungers. Ahhh!

IMG_20170507_124023_hdr_zpsgdn29w9m.jpg

It has a great view, too.

Wow richard spacey, get ready for an energetic party, he never stops

Sent from my iPad using Forums

We were on the Explorer of the Seas when he worked for Royal Caribbean. He was hilarious.

There is a late night "frisky feud" tonight. I think we will try to check that out. I am sure it is right up Richard Spacey's alley.

How fancy was chic night? We're on the Equinox Dec 2, and I usually go crazy on 'formal' nights since I never get a chance to really dress up. Were many women in long gowns?

I didn't make my husband wear a tie when we were on the Reflection last year, but I still wore long gowns. Will I look out of place?

You will be fine. I saw every style last night. I wore a short dress and DH had a shirt and tie. That was popular for men. (With or without tie) But there were a few tux and even a few Hawaiian shirts. Several women wore gowns. You will feel fine in whatever you wear.

Yesterday afternoon we decided it was time to catch some rays. We found a spot in the sun [hot, hot hot] and got in the pool. It had been chilly the day before--but, was like bath water yesterday.

I got one of the coconuts they had for sale at Crush. I got a splash of Run added to the fresh coconut water. Very refreshing; not sweet at all. . . and you know you are in the tropics when you get one of these.

You could hear the bartenders hammering the coconuts to open them all afternoon. LOL

After dinner we decided to try the Frisky Feud.

IMG_6885_zpsopc6b6q5.jpg

Richard Spacey is a pretty funny guy all on his own. The game show was patterned after the Family feud. They picked a male and a female from the 2 sides of the room. they had to come up with the most popular answer to the question---all answers we on the frisky side

It was held in the Celebrity central. This venue is used for lectures and movies.

IMG_6883_zpssvqdd5y3.jpg

The first question was body parts that start with a "T". [use your imagination] Yes, those are the body parts that were on the list. I took a pic of the answers to one of the questions, but decided I would not post it. :halo:

It lasted 1/2 hour and worth going to--but, it is not as funny as the Quest on Royal Caribbean.

I am afraid there will not be a sunset picture today. It was overcast this morning and it quickly turned to rain. . . . But, no worries, there were plenty of things to do inside. [dancing, classes, music, etc]

There was lots of shopping. [not my thing] and the Celebrity singer/dancers did a matinee show at 2 pm of a Tribute to Broadway. We stopped in for a time. By late afternoon the rain stopped, but few passengers ventured outdoors.

Went to the Captain's Club reception in the Sky lounge for Select/Elite/Elite + members. They served several types of drinks and passed trays of snacks. It was very nice--but, a little early in the day for me to be drinking. They had a band for dancing.

We spent a time in the casino making a donation. ;p . . . took a nap and went to the Martini Bar, etc. It was a quiet day, but oh so nice!

The evening show in the Celebrity Theater is the Las Vegas Tenors. There is a late night movie [Fences] at 10:15.
