San Juan 7 day cruise on Carnival Fascination

Just finished cruise from San Juan May 5-14. Ship is old and as a result the AC was ineffective in our Junior suite. The Guest Service desk made us feel like we were over critical of a room that would not cool down until 3 am in the morning. We could not take advantage of great views from our deck because doing so meant the room would heat up even more. Room measured 75F at 8:00pm. They measured temp right below the AC vent. Room was V11. This was my 5th cruise and never had trouble till now. Do not book this cruise!

We sailed this ship in March and had a great time!! Would do it again in a heart beat and definitely recommend. Sorry your AC didn't work well! That would definitely make things a little uncomfortable. But as far as the ship, I have to disagree. Yes, it is an older ship but has been maintained nicely in my opinion,

I have this cruise booked for next year. Glad to hear you had a good time. I was on a sister ship Elation last month. I enjoyed the ship and it was well maintained. Luckily the AC was working but I don't like an overly cold cabin.

I stopped cruising this class of ships back in 2006 because they were OLD then. My last 2 cruises out of San Juan were on the Celebrity Summit, for less $$$ than I would have paid as a solo on Carnival. The cruises on the Summit were in December and January.

My next San Juan cruise is on the NCL Dawn for 10 nights this January. I got a midship balcony for 2 under $2500. The Summit and Dawn both stop in Martinique. a stop that Carnival rarely does.

It pays to shop around and not choose Carnival automatically.

How was the cruise? How were the ports?

We are booked on this in less than a month. Really looking forward to it! Sorry your AC didn't work well. We live outside of Houston and are used to heat and humidity. We prefer to keep our thermostat around 77-78 to not have a total shock when we walk out the door... My sister in law loves to keep her house at 72 degrees, so I know everyone gets used to a different temperature, and that is what you want.

How was the rest of your cruise? We LOVE this size ship and have had many a happy cruise on sister ships. We don't like the MEGA ships--too many lines, too many people.

We live in Houston and keep our thermostat on 80 during the summer. We would freeze at 75.

My daughter though, keeps her house at 72 at night and it is like sleeping in a refrigerator to me. She complains about our house being too hot though. I guess everyone has their own comfort zones. I do think though that the AC system on each ship should be in such a condition so that each guest could have their cabin set to their own comfort temp.

I am "dittoing" this simply because she is an older ship, but clean and the service was really good. To each their own, but lower than 75 and I'm in Antarctica. Sorry to hear the OP wasn't happy. I just don't want others to take this opinion as the same for all.

I also would consider our Fascination cruise out of San Juan to be our worst ever, although the ports were good, especially St. Maarten and St. Kitts.

For one, my 16-year old daughter and her friends said they were constantly followed by immature 20-something guys speaking to them in Espanol. She said it wasn't just a few, it was five or six groups, and she felt like they knew she and her friends didn't speak the language by the way they kept walking away.

She never experienced that cruising out of our other ports.

For me, the casino - the Texas Hold'Em table was almost always near empty. I have never experienced this on another cruise - usually it has a waiting line.

I'd never cruise out of San Juan again, though I do enjoy it as a stop.

We did this cruise on April 30 in junior suite V21. Our AC worked fine. We loved this cruise and San Juan. I recommend it.

Us too. We were in U201. No issues with A/C. We actually had to close the vent a little at times. The ship is fine for the itinerary. Not a lot of bells and whistles but for us, the ship was just a place to sleep and eat.
