SempreMare Posted October 16, 2019 #9 Share Posted October 16, 2019 I searched the first 3 non-alcoholic drink links for "beer" and only saw Ginger beer hits. Is there a non-alcoholic beer served on board Royal Caribbean ships? Holland America serves Heineken 0.0 My all-time fave: Clausthaler from Frankfurt Germany. I can find it in Texas at Spec's and Total Wine & More. Clausthaler Original is fave #1. Dry hopped with spicier meals. Can't find the other 2. It tastes like an excellent craft beer. My friends think they are drinking alcoholic beer, so I tell them they can have only 2 :-). Only 90 calories, but it's not labeled 'light". I drink wine and liquors, but I've totally switched to Clausthaler for beer, since - I like it as much or more as any other beer I've had - Headlines from latest studies seem to say that basically alcohol over a small weekly amount is bad for you, including red wine contrary to earlier perceptions. (No, I can not quote the study. Yes, I'm sure contradictory studies have been published.) This "beer" has helped me lower my # of alcoholic drinks per (non-cruising) week to 3 while also helping me reduce the # of Coke Zeros, Breakfast of Champions, I drink. Coke Zero probably has a ton of chemical crap in it that Clausthaler does not. But sometimes I really crave those darn chemicals. I had to switch to German beers only because of an allergy to propylene glycol, which apparently beer makers can use to make the foam foamier. Since ingredients are not labeled in wine and beer (isn't that strange?) i could not check the labels first. No labels to check!. Yet I was reacting to some beers. Solution: Local beer guy at Specs suggested I just buy German beers since they have to abide by Reinheitsgebot http://www.clausthaler.com/storefinder/

MrsKC08 Posted October 16, 2019 #11 Share Posted October 16, 2019 I for one will never understand the purpose of alcohol free beer. Just seems like a waste to me, but...

Just seems like a waste to me, but... @MrsKC08, I can explain it to you since I love Clausthaler, the alcohol-free beer I linked to above. I drink beer for the taste, not the buzz. I enjoy the taste of Clausthaler original and dry hopped as much as any craft beer. I also enjoy wine and liquor. I also do not completely disregard the recommendations of researchers, and have 3 or fewer drinks per week. (I have more in these 2 weeks between Christmas and NewYears, less in any other month I'm not on vacation.) The huge upside of Clausthaler is it doesn't "count" against my self-imposed alcohol budget. I'm trying to minimize sodas, and I'm down to ~ twice a month of Coke Zero, breakfast of Champions 😉. Now when I get a serious carbonation craving, it's either Topo Chico which people in Austin are fanatical about, or Clausthaler. I have not found a non-alcoholic wine that I like. I've barely found an organic wine that I like. I am going to give this one a try which I heard about on this Bobby Parrish video simply because they actually have an ingredient label. A reason why I prefer any beer (alcohol free or otherwise) from Germany is their purity law means they can't, by law, put crap chemicals that American beer makers can include without a second thought... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot I've developed an allergy to propylene glycol, an ingredient in anti-freeze and a chemical that apparently makes beer foam foamier. There are no ingredient labeling laws for alcohol, so I can't know for sure it doesn't contain that chemical unless I'm drinking a german beer. I wish there was something similar for wines. That Bobby Parrish video references "Mega Purple" , an ingredient in wines that amps the sugar content among other things... https://vinepair.com/articles/what-is-mega-purple-and-what-is-it-doing-in-my-wine/
