Early morning flight from Venice? Any problems with getting to airport?

We are considering an early morning flight (around 8 a.m.) from Venice, but are concerned about getting to the airport from our hotel if we need to be there at "0 dark 30". It doesn't look as though the public water taxis run that early and we may need to hire a private water taxi. When we are dropped off at the Marco Polo landing stage, will we be able to take the free shuttle to the airport at 6 a.m.? What hours does it run? If not, how far a walk would it be? Is the area safe to walk by ourselves?

We also took a flight at that time out of Venice.The hotel made the arrangements for a water taxi to pick up us at 4:00 am. We had no problems, we arrive early at the airport (before 6:00) and the shuttle was there to pick us up and others that were in the bus stop.

You also don't really need to worry about the shuttle. It's a 5 minute walk and there are luggage carts for 1 Euro where the water taxis drop you off. Avoid the porters if you can. They will charge you 5 Euro per piece of luggage.

We had a 6 am flight out. Had to use a water taxi that picked us up at 4:30 am!!! also charged us 90 E. from our hotel nea San Marco. There was only 2 of us. Sure wish I could have shared the cost with another couple.
