Between Anchorage and Seward

We will be renting a car for the trip from Anchorage and Seward. What are some must see and/or do things on the road between the two? We will be staying somewhere in between the two places for two nights so we will have plenty of time to check things out.

Yes I know that everyone likes to do different things but I still want recommendations of things that we should do on our journey between the two places. We are in our 30's and open to pretty much anything other than fishing.

Thanks in advance! :D

Just a few suggestions: A stop at Alyeska Resort and a ride on their aerial tram. I can also recommend a stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. There is also Portage Lake and a 1 hour cruise on it to Portage Glacier. There's also plenty to do once in Seward, so make sure you plan time there too.

Winner Creek Trail at Alyeska has a hand tram to carry you over the river.

There's an easy trail to the foot of Byron Glacier also nr Alyeska.

The Girdwood Chamber of Commerce has a listing of accomodations ( you'll find that web site in the Helpful Resources thread at the bottom of this page), incl the Alyeska. Summit Lake Lodge is a lovely spot about 30 minutes beyond Girdwood.

Suggested stopping points along the Turnagain Arm\

We are making the same drive. I found a link on TA to this great driving guide that points out all the highlights.

ETA: Well I tried to attach my PDF which I have shortened for just the Anchorage to Seward drive but it didn't work so here is the link of the whole thing.

Consider the Spencer Glacier raft trip. The train picks you up just south of Girdwood at the Portage station. Train takes about 30 minutes then you board a bus for a very short ride to the rafts. From there they paddle you around the ice bergs for a while before heading down the Placer River where you are then picked up by the train.

You can also skip the rafting and just take the train out and walk around.

As I remember it’s about a 4 hour turnaround from the time you leave the station until you return. With 2 nights along the way, you’d still have time to do what is mentioned above.

FYI - Every one of these is a 2:1 in the Toursaver coupon book/app. We will be there next week and plan on doing some or all of these if the weather cooperates. We are also using the 2:1 on the Anchorage Whittier train.

If weather is nice the short hike to the snout of Exit Glacier is nice. Very dramatic the extent of retreat. About 9 miles off Hwy 9 near Seward. I think technically part of Kenai Fjords National Park so may be entrance fee unless you have an annual pass.
