St. Martin "Race" shore excursion

has anyone taken this shore excursion? Being fans of the TV show Amazing Race, we were wondering if this was a fun excursion since it seems different from the average "get on the bus and look around" tour.

We did it on our Allure sailing - so much fun! It is a good mixture of physical and mental challenges, and appropriate for kids and adults. You walk all over town and see things you normally wouldn't. You final score is a combination of time and score on scavenger hunt-like and trivia challenges, so speed isn't the only factor.

We did it last year on the Allure also.

 

Thru RCI it is called THE FAMILY RACE

 

We met on the pier and walked to a side area where we were given directions and how to contact the group leaders in an emergency.

 

Then we were divided into teams, 8-10 (there were about 40 of us in this excursion).

 

The first task was not as hard as it seemed but, once you figured a short cut out you get done with it quick (first place).

 

Then off to the beach and the locals knew what we were doing.

 

This task was a hoot and plan on a few members of your group running in the sand down to the waters edge and back while doing something..... (still in first place).:rolleyes:

 

Then off thru the streets, finding special places and locating certain items in them.

Once you do the next clue is given (dropped to second).

 

The "trivia" part was a little challenge, but we soon mastered (not good enough, now third)

 

Then time to pose for a picture, but be original (points-points-points)!!!!!!!!!

 

Break, bathroom and water.........

 

Off again couple more tasks

 

One brings back your child hood memories.

 

And finally, the last task

 

Just need one swimmer to complete, and yup, our DD did it in record time, but not enough to win the first place prize:(

 

At the awards ceremony they give you soft drinks, and a small plate of hourdevours.

 

The winners got .......................................................(gotta be surprised!)

 

 

 

HINTS:

 

Pack light, maybe one person in your party with a small back pack.

Take only what you need, towel (share it),.

 

Small bills to buy souvenirs, water.......

 

Suntan lotion, very sunny, concrete roads.....

 

Good shoes, or sandals that you can run in when needed.

 

Have the swimmer wear their bathing suit under their clothes.

 

We all wore our bathing suites under......

 

We took our camera and got great pictures.

 

Security never a problem the guides kept an eye on all teams and made the lead teams wait till others caught up and the leaders got their time (head start) just like the show.

We would have never seen the culture of this island had we not done this event.

Thanks for your replies. Sounds like lots of fun. My wife won't be able to participate but it sounds like if I sign up by myself I'll be assigned to a team, which is fine.

Super happy to hear this. One of my 14 year old twins picked this for our family in October while we are on Harmony. I have done a similar race in Cozumel (2nd place!!).
