Just in case your going to be leaving on one of the ships to Alaska from Canada place tomorrow in Vancouver, be prepared for crazy crowds! It's Canada's 150th birthday and they speculate there will be 1.5 million there through out. Just give your self a bit more time... and dont expect quick taxis lol 🇨🇦🇨🇦

I would question the report that there will be 1.5 million people down there.

At our volunteer training session for Canada Day last night they stated that they expect about 250,000 people over the course of the two days of celebration. These are the people who put on the event for the Port of Vancouver so they should have a pretty good idea of crowd size as they have to submit an emergency plan to the police and fire etc.

There will be three ships in port both days so it will be busy getting to and from Hall C which is now used exclusively during the cruise season by the cruise ship companies.

I am scheduled to work the info booth both days so pop on down and say hi.

Also at 4 PM on Canada Day July 1, 2017 all activities on site - bands etc will stop and all those in attendance will be asked to join in singing a rousing rendition of O Canada - likely in both official languages as this is a federal government event.

Cheers and happy CANADA Day everyone.

Dennis

Couldn't y'all use this opportunity to retire _Oh, Canada!_,which is both hard to sing and awkward with the new less-sexist lyrics, and take the eminently sensible suggestion of using the poll-winning Stan Rogers' _Northwest Passage_ ?

I can't think of a better gift to baritones and basses on the sesquicentennial of Confederation than to make this vital switch.

There's a few alternatives...

The Olympics produced some good tunes for national pride.

It might be the total for the entire weekend - there is no way that the space around Canada Place and the Convention centers can hold that many people.

When Jackie Chan took the stage around 4:15 this afternoon they announced that the crowd was estimated at 300,000. After he finished it started to disperse and as I was walking home a different crowd was starting to enter the area for the evening activities and fireworks.

Regardless it was a great time, good weather - not too hot and with a nice light breeze to keep it comfortable.

At 5PM the Niew Amsterdamn tooted it horn and left for Alaska and shortly afterwards the Star did the same - The Golden Princess was still there at 6 PM - someone stated it was overnighting in Vancouver.

As you approached the terminal area you were being stopped by police/security - if you were on a cruise ship you could continue through to the port - if you wanted the festivities you needed to walk over to the official entrance on Burrard. Being a volunteer I was allowed into Canada Place as our volunteer headquarters are there.

There were lots of port workers with large signs indicating which way to go.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
