kybluecruiser Posted July 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Here are a couple great videos. The first one is about the canceled Carnival Pinnacle project. The second one is an interview with Joe Farcus about the Pinnacle. Sent from my iPad using Forums

gkbiiii Posted July 1, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 1, 2017 Great video, I was just about to post it. To think that Carnival could have beaten Royal Caribbean, to have the largest, most innovative ship at sea. How sad they did not follow through with it, as their competitors; RCCL, MSC, Celebrity, all have vessels that greatly outclass any Carnival vessel. BNBR Posted July 17, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 17, 2017 What a shame this never came through. Even the 2nd generation version. Carnival really could have been doing something special and instead we have a 3rd Vista coming.... very poor decisions at the top.

Carnival was leading the innovation race when Destiny debuted and it all faltered from there.

TheTravelista Posted July 17, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Because they keep filling up their boats. They would have filled these boats too. This was Oasis before Oasis was even thought of. It's kind of amusing to see other companies have success with ideas that were borrowed from this concept. At that time Carnival and RCI were pretty much neck and neck in the battle for mass market cruise line supremacy and NCL was out of the conversation. Carnival would be a completely different company today if this had come to fruition.

They fill up like crazy AND for higher fares than Carnival gets on the smaller ships. What could have been! I like Royal better because of their ships. Carnival with similar (and unique) mega ships would be a game changer. And with their own innovations, just imagine where cruising would be right now had Carnival actually innovated! But no, still same old Fincantieri ships and STILL more to come.... goodness.

Project Pinnacle gets brought up like once a year around here and every time it just get sadder when you look at the current state of the cruise industry and see what's thriving. What could have been indeed...
